FSX on Max Setting

It's really puzzling. For a long time I've always had problem playing with FSX crashing on me although I have a fairly good rig (3.2 GHz)and fairly good video card (HD 7700), to minimize problems I've had to keep my setting about mid-level and even at that level I was still experiencing problems mostly the game stopping and a warning stating that MS has encountered problems and has to shut down. I've decided to see a PC tech and I was told that my video card, a PCIe 3.0, was not compatible with my mobo (Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0) which was a PCIe 2.0 board) Most advices I've had including from this Forum was that my vidoe card should be compatible with my mobo. It was suggested that I install a PCIe 2.0 video card and there are no longer many around I found one and installed an MSI Afterburner Nvidia GeForce GT 6304GB DDR3 PCIe 2.0 which only cost me $105.00. Well I don't know what's so unique about this video card but at this point but I have all my FSX settings (scenery and graphics) at max and the frame rate unlimited have had no problems. I simply wish to share this experience because it was always well known that FSX is very demanding.

It is a good card with 4Gig of 128 Bit memory
Most cards are 1 to 2 Gig but the bit length is higher .

The card I am using has 6144 mb memory or 6 Gig but it is DDR5 and it is 384 bit @ 289 GB per second with 2688 cuda cores.

I still think I would have been fine with the card that is sitting on the floor right now {Nvidia GTX 660 Ti} and I could have saved the money and helped purchase a 1 TB SSD but what's done is done . . . .

We're always better off investing in the best possible processor we can get our hands on first and then the graphics.
The mother board is just as important but at the end f the day your computer will only be as fast as it;s slowest component ,for me that is my hard drive according to all performance tests I have run.
My CPU ranks right up there with some of the best ,not the best but some of the best.
My graphics card is second to none,it is the best and the fastest single GPU card available
My hard drive is my bottle neck and it has to go , but it is a huge nut,there is a place by me that may work out a trade for the GFX card I have,i am going there next week, if they do the swap I will just re-install the 660 Ti that is on the floor I really believe it is way overkill for FSX,the thing is , I know what is going to happen, after I get the SSD, I will see something in one of the forums where someone proves it was the Graphics card all along and will need it again and have to pay top dollar for it

It is just one big giant revolving door with Upgrade after upgrade anfter upgrade, I must have invested 10 grand into this hobby over the years Crazy right ? which makes me wonder how many computers or upgrades has everyone gone through since their first flight sim . . . .I think I still have the first Microsoft flight sim still in this desk somewhere

If it did make any difference, I added an 84 Gig Scandisk SSD and used it exclusively for my FSX but that was before I switched to the GT 630.

I got a new Asus GTX-770 DirectCU II 2GB GDDR5, PCI-E x16 3 graphics adapter to replace my GTX 570 with 1.3 GB memory, which seemed to be used only at 50% by FSX. So not only the processor speed is important, but also the graphics adapter and it's memory I think. I wish I had a card with 4 GB memory to test.

Bubblehead the i7 processor and your graphics card are more than powerful enough to run FSX, the 4770. Is a beast! I would say the issue is in windows 8 it just may need to be configured differently? Is there an option to run under win 7 settings?

I run FSX maxed out on my current system with no problem. I did have to install the uiautomation core.dll and I use RAZOR to make sure noting unnecessary is running.

When I was looking at processors and mobo's I was going to get the 4770 but the guy at intel told me the 4820k had a larger L3 cache and was a little faster for 15 bucks cheaper, it is a different LGA socket too but is not an actual 4th gen CPU no matter what the numbers are, it was released between the ivy bridge and the has well , it is an ivy E cpu
