Hey,

I hope this is of some use to someone!

I've always been after something that will pause FSX for me when I'm away, basically the pause at TOD feature you get with PMDG etc but that I can use for everything and I finally found it, its call Ill be back later. There's a link in this forum post http://forum.simflight.com/topic/26043- ... -waypoint/
It allows you to set it to pause after a certain number of NM have passed.
I do a lot of long flights in freeware props which don't have this feature, i recently flew from London to Sydney in a C-117D and this would of been so helpful instead of me running back to the pc when I thought my 5 hour leg might be coming to an end.
anyways hope its useful!

Interesting find but I doubt if I will ever use a program like this as I do not make any flights over 3 to 5 hours if I can avoid it. I am not one of those people who starts a flight than goes to sleep leaving the plane flying than wake up in the morning in time to land. In the real world Pilots are limited to 8 or 9 hours of flying time after that they must take a 10 to 12 hour rest period. The reason for the difference has to do with time zones

Differences between REAL aviation and SIMULATED aviation....

When you crash in REAL aviation, there's a good chance you won't be home that night.
When you crash in SIMULATED aviation, you turn off the monitor and go to bed.

When your engine quits in REAL aviation, your sphincter puckers.
When your engine quits in SIMULATED aviation, you press ctrl+e and carry on.

When you botch a landing in REAL aviation, you break the gear and probably countless other components on the airframe.
When you botch a landing in SIMULATED aviation, you adjust your realism settings and turn off damage caused by crashes.

When you get a report of traffic in your vicinity in REAL aviation, you strain your eyes and neck as you feverishly try to spot the bandit.
When you get a report of traffic in your vicinity in SIMULATED aviation, you go to chase view and turn on aircraft labels.

When you get lost in REAL aviation, you get scared, and frantically try to figure out where you are before it's too late.
When you get lost in SIMULATED aviation, you pause the flight, search through the maps and charts, adjust the autopilot, and resume the flight.

When you fly long haul in REAL aviation, you get your minimum rest in before he flight, and then show up to fly the flight from start to finish.
When you fly long haul in SIMULATED aviation, you start the flight, get bored, download an app to pause your flight, go watch some TV, have a nap, then come back to finish the landing for all the glory.

When you leave the plane on autopilot and walk away from the controls for 4 hours in REAL aviation, you lose your job.
When you leave the plane on autopilot and walk away from the controls for 4 hours in SIMULATED aviation, you still get paid in your VA and you get promoted to fly bigger planes.

We simmers got it pretty easy don't we!

I would say that sums it up pretty good.
But the biggest difference between us simmers and real pilots is the amount of hours a pilot has to fly before a airline will even consider allowing him/her to set in the cockpit of one of there planes. Just to get a standard pilot license you have to have a minimum of 40 flight hours before a FAA person will give you a check ride. And than throw in the numerous hours to get a IFR rating and you have a lot of hours. I have had pilots tell me that they had to have at least 1200 hours of multifixed aircraft time. And that is just to get a job with a commuter airline.
So yes we simmers get it pretty easy. If you fly VATSIM or IVAHO I think is the name of the other online live ATC site. It gets as close as we can to the real world. There is at least one Virtual Airline out there that makes advancing more of a real world task. One has to pass a test which is pretty intensive before they can change the types of aircraft they are allowed to fly. One of the reasons why I dropped out of it I thought it was a little to much. If I have to go through all of that than I want to fly the real thing.

In reality a pilot might as well leave the auto pilot on for 4 hour unattended because overall it wouldn't make much difference.

However I would challenge any of you if you ever said you took off in you lovely PMDG 747 or 777 and sat with it giving it you full attention as you flew between LA and Sydney, because frankly if you have enough time in your life to spend 13 + hours looking at a pc screen slowly watching blue move underneath you then you may have some life issues you want to address.

However I quite happily fly VRF for up to 2 hours manually giving it my full attention.

Sometimes however it's about the destination and the route planning.

Absolutly, take the time to plan. Make 3 or 4 non-scheduled stops before you reach your destination schedule if need be. Most cases when flying a VA the ticket/schedule you take on, remains until you reach your destination airport. You take it upon yourself as a pilot to land/stop and takeoff/restart back up when your ready to continue on to your final destination. The pilot always has the last say. Sometimes may take 2 or 3 days till you reach your destination. If a CEO of a VA has a problem with that, there are plenty of other VA's out there.

Bottom line were all going to fly the way we prefer to do so. That was a good find you found, I'll never use it, but there might be some that will. Thanks for sharing.

The one thing that I hate about every VA out there is they do not trust you so they make you download and install some kind of flight follower so you do not cheat. The other thing is most VA'S will limit you to start at a hub and force you to fly there aircraft. I do not have a problem flying the aircraft as it is just a repaint. But I do not like it when they force you to start out flying twin engine turboprops.
The way I look at it if you cheat during a flight by slewing than you are only cheating yourself. I got into quite a argument not with the VA but with another pilot in the VA he insisted that I was cheating on my flights and was not actually flying any of them because of the rate in which I was flying them.
But what he failed to understand was at the time I was on short term disability from work because of a back surgery I had just had. So I had plenty of time to kill.
I finally had enough of it and told the VA where to go.
Do not get me wrong if flying for a VA is what you want to do than go for it some of them can be fun. I do not want to sound like I am blasting VA'S because I am not.
Just one or two of them. :)

I've been enjoying Flight Sim Multiplayer since the old Dial Up Internet days, and still do most days, using the many FS Host Servers....

...but I've always avoided VA/VATSIM sites like the plague!

I really don't fancy the idea of being told what to do, and what not to do, by some little Flight Sim organiser, during my flights... ...!

I join Multiplayer for the enjoyment of friendly company, and a chat....not for the strict rules of engagement!

There's definitely no fun in that!

Reminder:...Its only a Game!.... ;) ... ;) ....!

Paul...G-BPLF.... 8-) ...!
