Accessing Logbook, Saved Flights and Rewards

Over the past several months my flight computer has been having several issues including crashing with the blue screen of death. I have fixed several problems and recovered it more than once but I fear it is on its way out. It is an old Q-6600 Quad core running FSX in XP.
I would like to be able to keep my logbook, saved flights and rewards to install them in a new machine with windows 7.

Is that possible?

I just recovered it this morning and it has been running for a whole 10 minutes without crashing. (Backdated the BIOS)

It is not connected to the internet to keep the machine free of antivirus software that would slow it down.

Open your My Documents folder and you will find your Flight Simulator X Files, which contains your saved flights, flight plans, and the logbook bin . you can save the whole folder or just save what you want in it. To save your rewards, go to: local disk (C:)\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX and there you'll find 2 files, GrantedRewards.BIN , and GrantedRewardsOld.BIN. Be advised you must have show hidden files and folders checked in Folder options found in your control panel, in order to access application data.

Hey Ang2dogs

Thanks for that. I will probably do that and store it with all of the crashing that seems to be happening lately.

Again Thanks :D

Your welcome. Now when you get Win7, and after you install FSX, just copy and paste the logbook bin in your My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files. Now to copy and paste your rewards bins in win7 you go to: Your name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX, also check the show hidden files and folders in win7 too to access.

My computer has been performing well since this post but it is only a matter of time. I have been thinking of building a new machine and installing windows 7 and a new version of FSX Gold. It is a crazy world out there when it comes to computers so my first question would be: What is the difference in performance between an i5 and an i7 processor. The price between them seems to be quite a bit.

Thanks

There are a few differences between the two the I5 is the older of the two and you will only find quad cores the I7 has six core cpus as well as quad core.
The other difference can be where one has a SANDY bridge and the other has a IVY bridge the IVY bridge is the better of the two.
The board I have is capable of supporting both the sandy and the ivy bridge. You might also notice a difference in speed and level of cache.
I should point out if you go to windows 7 or 8 it is recommended that you do not install FSX to the default location. This has to do with permission issues
It has always been advised to install FSX or FS9 to a drive that does not have your operating system on it.
But I know that not every one can install a second hard drive for one reason or the other. If this is the case just make a folder outside of the program file folder and you will not have any problems.
Granted there are people that are using window 7 and 8 that do not have any issues after installing to the default location. This is true but if you add third party software you could run into a problem.
Third party software can include things like Weather programs payware scenery and payware aircraft.
As you can see by my signature I am using windows 8 64 bit and have FSX on one drive and FS9 on a second drive. I have three hard drives two internal 1 external USB 3.0 1TB drive. I am using FSXGOLD

Thanks Gary

Buying an already built gaming computer is not the way I am going to go and with advice like yours and lots of research I hope to build a Kick-ass flight sim computer.

Again Thanks
