FSX Real weather updates

So I noticed that my real world weather doesn't update any more?? Is anyone else having this issue? I just recently (maybe a month ago) got back into FSX so forgive me if I'm unaware of any support fall-off etc etc.

I dunno 'bout FSX, but FS9 updates just fine. Did you check the Settings to be sure it's set to auto-update still? Just a thought, I am FAR from being at all knowledgeable about anything FSX per se, but I know things like that can slip thru the cracks if one has been away a while....

Good luck anyway....

The service seems to be down for almost a year now. If you want real weather, you have to buy an addon weather machine like REX or Active Sky etc.

Yes the FSX weather does not update to real world anymore....and no you don't have to buy anything. Try out FSXrealWX Lite for live updating weather. It works just fine and it's free.

Thanks for the responses all! I went ahead and put fsxrealwx lite with fsuipc4 on and it seems to work out. Now it seems that as long as I have fsxrealwx running, it doesn't matter what I have the weather settings in FSX set to correct?

Thanks for the freeware hint. I knew, there were some programs, but didn't know any myself. I will try that too and compare with REX 3, which I have. As long as the internal FSX weather worked, I rather used this, since the weather was good enough for me and it didn't lag FSX while loading new weather.

Well...

FSrealWX seemed like a good idea to try....>>> http://www.fsrealwx.net/

But after installing it, all I get on my desktop is a short-cut and this strange window...and nothing else!....>>>

Image

It doesn't seem to do anything!
I've uninstalled and reinstalled it many times with no success!
But on the other hand, when I select "Real weather" in my FSX, the progress bar loads it up, and it looks pretty realistic in the area that I am flying compared to the local news weather forecast!
I don't seem to be having any problem running "Real Weather" in the Flight Sims!.... ....!

Windows 8. 64-Bit. FSX. FSUIPC (free).

I will stick with Active Sky because of its ability to create weather for your flight plan and the weather is generated from a live source so it is reasonably accurate. Even in the real world a pilot can get a weather report for his flight and by the time he actually takes off it can change completely. A good example is the ATIS information at a airport it is updated on the hour unless something drastic happens to force a update sooner like a wind change which can mean a change in the active runway being used.

Fozzer,
Right click the desktop icon and "run as administrator". That should bring it to life.

FSXrealWX compiles its data from the same reliable sources that active sky does. Real world METAR data is gathred and interpreted by the software, and the weather conditions are drawn to match ( within the limitations of fsx obviously).

All the weather engines perform this task in the same way, only this one is free. And with some of the freeware sky and cloud texture packs out there, i can get a pretty nice looking meteorlogical experiance AND keep my money for somthing more useful.

I find that FSXrealWX is nicely customizable to help limit the lag caused by downloading new METARs. You can edit the distance from your position that it searches new weather, and you can edit how often it looks for updates. I fly low and slow so my preference id 50 miles and 15 minutes. Plenty accurate enough and i can't detect lag from the program.

Ta, Pegger.....That worked after I re-installed it again!.... :D ...!

...funny thing is, although I am confirmed as "Admin" for everything I do in my Win 8, yet occasionally I have to go through the routine of confirming it every now and again for certain programs!

Also, when I ran the program for my selected Sim area, the weather conditions appeared exactly the same as my FSX "Real Weather Jeppesen" download!...There's a surprise!... :o ....!

I have the same problem with my windows 8 trying to get programs to run using administrator mode. I have yet to figure it out when I installed FSX it automatically declared it to run as administrator and you can see the unique icon it makes but so far I have not been able to get other programs to set up like this. Even if I click on the EXE file and right click and than click on properties and select run as administrator I still have to manually select run as administrator every time I run it.
But I have to admit it is not that big of a deal to me so I have not really dug into this little problem much.
I am going to have to get off my behind and fix this little problem I wil let you know if I have any success at this.
Gary getting off my behind :confusion-confused: :confusion-scratchheadyellow:
