possible contrail problem

Postby Evan Popchock » Wed Jan 01, 2014 9:46 pm

Hey,
I recently noticed that I'm getting two separate sets of contrails in FSX. In addition to the one that trails behind my plane as I am flying, I also am getting another set of contrail that starts behind my aircraft and shoots downward as if my aircraft is dumping something from its engines. I wish I could explain this more clearly, but I just noticed this problem a few days ago when I was doing a flight from New York to the Virgin Islands. If anybody knows what this problem is and can help me to understand what I am trying to say here, and can offer some advice, I'd appreciate it. thanks. By the way, I checked one of the contrails effects file in the flight simulator effects folder and noticed a recent modification to one of the files: fx_contrail_ l.fx

I think I recall this problem happening in FS2004 if the effect was overwritten with the FS2002 version of the effect (probably overwritten by an installer). Maybe this is the same problem.

The FSX version should have a file date created and modified of 5/12/2006.

you are correct Dave this was a problem in Fs2002 and in version FS2009 (Century of Flight)
This is why you NEVER download anything straight into any version of FS
Something you downloaded changed those files. If you backed up your files this is no problem. Or are one of those people that has not backed up any files for FSX.
This is something that every one should do even if you only have 1 hard drive Thumb drives and external hard drives are not that expensive I recently got a external 1TB USB3 hard drive for less than $100.00 but thumb drives come in all kinds of sizes I have a 32 gig thumb drive.

well, I think something I downloaded must have modified this file, and I didn't back up the original copy, so this means I might be stuck with this? :?
