FSX compatibility with Windows 8.1 update

I have a brand new Acer gaming rig. In fact I have nothing else installed except FSX, FS9, some music, and the online Flight Simulator game. The computer came with Windows 8 as an operating system and my flight sims, both FSX and FS9 were running fine. Actually FS9 was having an issue with textures on aircraft 'disappearing' behind the engine smoke effects, but that's another issue that's been plaguing me since my last gaming PC. The new rig is an Acer Predator, Intel Core i7-4770 Processor 3.4 GHz(6 MB cache) 32 GB DDR3 RAM, 3 TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive, 24 GB Solid State Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GTX660 Graphics, Windows 8. As I said both FSX and FS9 seemed to run ok. I installed the recent update 8.1 and now on both versions of FS in the aircraft selection screen and in game views it's as if I were looking at a picture meant to be viewed with 3 D glasses. In other words there's a red and a blue picture that's separated. Anyone else experiencing this? I have tried manipulating setting in the Nvidia control panel as well as the computers own graphics resolution settings. I have also tried moving settings sliders in game on both FSX and FS9 with no luck. I tried uninstalling both versions of FS to reinstall and now I have an even bigger problem, I have deleted every shortcut and file associated with either version but FSX still shows in the program uninstall screen.

Additional info: both FSX and FS9 that we're running ok prior to the 8.1 update were versions I had copied to an external HD from my last gaming rig then transferred to the new PC. I don't see that this would have been an issue though since both ran ok. Any suggestions or info on a cure?

I should also mention that I stalled SP1 and 2 on FSX from the FS website prior to the Windows 8.1 update.

I had nothing but cascading problems with windows 8, you fix one problem only to discover another. My solution was simple, went back to windows 7, it has it's own problems, but at least they are easy to fix.

If you go to the NVIDIA control panel (either via right-clicking the desktop or by using the icon in the lower left) you can select "Set up stereoscopic 3D." You will want to either disable it with the check box or select the "Set Keyboard Shortcuts" button to see what the toggle key-combination is.

For example, my computer had it defaulted on when I updated (still don't know why), and I looked and saw that the shortcut had been set to ctrl+t (probably the default). It took a few tries, but I got the check box in the window labeled "Enable stereoscopic 3D" unchecked, and volia, no more issues with that :D

(Forgive me if that didn't make sense)

Aside from that minor issue (which only happened with one game) I have yet to have any major compatibility issues with 8.1 that have not been unfix-able (save for NFS ProStreet failing...).

I also have installed 8.1. It took me a day to fix 'minor' issues that were raised with the upgrade. Sill not completely fixed yet. For the most part, trying to fly on start-up usually ends up with a 'fatal error'. I have found though that if I go into settings and make adjustments, I'm able to have a little more flexibility. Most of the downloaded planes cause major problems as well as some of the ones native to FSX. Missions work well, the problems lie in free flight. Like most 8.1 users, I'll find the "work around" to make things tolerable until I can either go back to 8 or better yet, win 7.

I have neither Windows 8.anything nor a NVIDIA card. But as the .1 version was just released, I would think that NVIDIA might have to release a new driver for 8.1.

Are you installing the sim in the default location. If so this could be some of your problem.
Because of the permission issues with windows 8 it is advised you not install either sim in the default location.
I am not sure if the update has the same permissions problem. I am using Windows 8 and have not seen the update as of yet but so far I have no issues but I installed both sims on a separate hard drive.
