FSX SP2/Acceleration Fatal Error on startup

Hi all,

I've got a Fatal Error on startup that only seems to occur when SP2 or Acceleration are installed.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and have an AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series graphics card. As far as I’m aware I have the most up to date drivers installed from the AMD website.

I have tried clean installs of both FSX Deluxe>SP1>SP2 and FSX Deluxe>Acceleration to no avail and the same thing happens each time. When starting FSX up, after a few seconds I get a message ‘A Fatal Error Has Occurred’ and it shuts down.

From the event log:

Oddly, when ending a flight with just SP1 installed I get a Fatal Error as well. Whether this is related or not, I don’t know.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If I have failed to provide any vital details here then please do let me know!

Kind Regards,
Huw

First things first. If you have Acceleration you do not need any of the service packs as they are included in Acceleration .
The second thing is what version of FSX or you trying to install Gold or Deluxe. Some people including myself was unable to install the deluxe version on Windows 8 64 bit and had to obtain the Gold version which comes with Acceleration. From what I have read this seems to be a hit or miss issue as some people have managed to run the deluxe version on a 64 bit system. I have no idea as to why some can and some cannot.
The other thing that I have read is when installing FSX on Windows 7 or 8 it is advised that you do not install in the default location.
FSX runs best if installed on a separate hard drive if you do not have one than make a folder anyplace other than Program Files/Microsoft games.
I doubt seriously if this is the problem here though.
But if you are trying to install a service pack after installing Acceleration I am not sure what might happen.

I've not tried to install the service packs along with Acceleration. When I tried the service packs I did them without Acceleration to see if that made any difference to the fatal error message. I'm now assuming it has something to do with the files in SP2 (which are also included in Acceleration).

I have the Gold Edition, but I thought all that was was a bundle of FSX Deluxe and Acceleration?

I made another file to install it to other than the default location, but I haven't tried another hard drive yet. I guess that's the next thing I'll try.

Thanks for the reply!

FSX Gold does come as a bundle That is what I have. After uninstalling FSX did you run the reset tool? See link below
