Win8 Issues

I have been playing this on windows 8 for months now at it crashes every single flight. MSFS has stopped working. I have tried everything to stop it crashing (forums galore etc etc )but to no avail. I don't have windows 7 anymore and although it worked fine when Win7 came out, towards the end it was doing the same thing. I see it pointless to carry on, I have cleaned-reinstalled fsx -re installed win8-deleted files added files etc etc and nothing. anyone else have the same issues? cheers guys.

I had numerous crashes in windows 8...I'd just re-boot and hope for the best. Unfortunately, that is not the worst of it. I ultimately lost all my sound capability (on and off FSX) and none of the fixes worked. I tried to restore to an earlier date...nada. I did a system refresh and got my sound back...and lost all my programming. Tried to re-install FSX and got "Error 1722" and "Error 1603" messages. Needless to say, I am still grounded. None of the windows fixes worked, but I'm still researching and hopeful that someone at Microsoft will realize that something needs to be done to Win 8...

All i can give you is this (i dont have win8 and will not)

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 1c30b1c6ae

Then referring to win7, if something goes wrong after some times, there could be fault in registry!
CCleaner/ registry clean might help.

Note. If you are playing inside win cmd, then be sure you type excatly what is showed, and that means space and all!!

I know its of no help now, but there are many times when I yearn for the sturdiness and simplicity of Windows XP SP2!

It may have been a little slow at times, but from a programming, fault-finding, and compatibility point of view, it was fantastic!

...especially for the Flight Sim Series!

Paul...Windows 7, 32-bit... ...!

Amen to XP. Papa done taught me, if it aint broke, don't fix it. Microsoft could take lessons in NOT fixing things which work just fine.

Hey there,

Unfortunately, FSX only works on some peoples' Windows 8 computers.

What is your FSX Version? Is it Standard, Deluxe or Acceleration?

My OS is Windows 8, and I'm running FSX Gold in this OS, and FSX runs fine.

Quite a number of people have experienced problems with FSX in Windows 8...

I think this is all I can help you with. I'll keep an eye out on this post too to take a look at the discussion. :)

I have Windows 8 and have no problems at all running FSX. Now mind you this is the Gold edition of FSX as I could not get the standard edition to run at all no matter what I did.
So my first question is you guessed it is this the standard edition of FSX? Now before every one starts to holler I am aware that there are some people that are running the standard edition of FSX on Windows 8. I read some where the problem with the standard edition was 1 .dll file.
I for one did not want to bother messing around with DLL files so I just bought the Gold edition.
Now I can tell you that it is advised not I repeat DO NOT install FSX in the default location which is C:/Program Files(86)/Microsoft games.
FSX works the best installed on a separate drive not on the same drive as your Operating system. But not every one has the means of installing a second hard drive. If you only have the one drive just make a folder any where other than the Programs File folder

I had to fiddle around with it a lot to get it working well, but now it seems just as stable as it usually was.

I run Win 8 and FSX Gold in XP compatibility mode. It runs faultlessly and I pin my frame rate at 20. I also run UTX USA and Canada along with ORBX PNW with a host of complex airports. My secret is not a secret really. I purchased Reimage repair, which scans and replaces corrupt files. This allowed me to install FSX Gold edition without a glitch on my AIO HP 27” which has a 27”screen. I “fly” everyday from Lillooet (CAR3) in BC Canada to Victoria Intl. Simulating my wish commute, returning every evening at 5.30PM. If I knew how, I’d post a picture of the fabulous mountain scenery I fly through in my RN Dove, or alternatively in my Cirrus SR22. (The Dove flies higher.)
I have 2 routes to fly, #1 is down the Fraser canyon via Abbotsford. The other is more complex, it’s via Pemberton, Whistler and through the Vancouver Area with an instrument approach to Victoria.
The 1st uses UTX scenery, but the 2nd allows me to compare the FTX PNW as I cross the coast range mountains. Try it sometime.
