AI traffic and default textures?

I am pretty new to the boards and have only been using FSX since June. The question I have is now that my hangar is pretty much where I want it, why did all of my AI traffic disappear? Also, is there a way to get back all of the default textures/airplanes that were AI when FSX was installed? I may have deleted some (most, all) of the default C172 textures, and other planes, paints, textures, etc. Any assistance on adding back/installing more of the AI will be appreciated.

WHY are you deleting
A repair or a reinstall might be your weapon!

I was trying to get down to the textures that I like, and I have come to realize that certain missions and the tutorials require certain textures. I told you I'm a noob to FSX.

Unless you
REALLY know exactly what you are doing in the Flight Sim...don't
delete anything!
You could finish up with having to reinstall the whole program again....

Hi there,
Although I think Bass gave the recommended option to reinstall/repair FSX, which I believe you should,
I would also recommend you to make a copy of your main FSX folder and put it somewhere safe, like "My Documents" in your computer, so if anything gets lost, or you accidentally deleted anything, you can always copy and paste the default item that you lost back into your original FSX.
Good luck trying to solve your problem.

If you download textures to a certain airplane, then read the install manual carefully, so you can see the tweak to the aircraft.cfg
You can't just add any textures and then delete the ones you dont like, unless you know what you're doing.
Dont EVER do it in default planes.......

I realize NOW what I wasn't supposed to do. I have been modifying the aircraft.cfg files, and panel files and scenery files, etc., so that wasn't the problem. I mainly deleted textures because of hard disk space. That is not a real issue now. I was just wondering if there was anywhere I could go to download the missing textures, or will a re-install/repair add them back without removing everything else I have done?

Now, that is a good question, panting.
I would recommend, as Thaddeus said, make a copy of what you got and then run the repair.
A repair will add the textures to the stock planes, but it will also change the .cgf files to default!
If you then got a backup, you could add your "own" textures again and change the .cgf to read those.
Its a long way back i last tried a repair. As far as i remember, i also got some problems with other things, so now i've learned to "mix" with my sims the hard way

Can anyone tell me where the Main FSX CFG is. I am thinking of a clean install on my external to fix my "problems". I know where the logbook is, but not the main FSX config file. Thanks

This depends on what version of windows you are using. But you must select the option to show hidden files.
If you are using XP you will find this file in the main drive under your name and then in a folder called APPDATA I believe
In windows 7 and windows 8 this file is found on your main drive under your name and then under roaming I think. At work right now so I can not look but I know I am close to it but might be missing a step someplace.
Of course you can just use the search function and look on your Main drive even though FSX might be installed on a different drive the FSX cfg file is on the same drive as your operating system is on which in most cases is the C drive.

As Gary said, turn on "show hidden files".
C/users/"username"/appdata/roaming/microsoft/fsx

Hi Panting,
I've mentioned this before elsewhere, what you also have to be wary of is if for example you have Acceleration installed, you cannot do a repair of fsx with it installed because acceleration changes fsx files.
With Acceleration installed: Try repair of that first.
If problem remains, Uninstall Acceleration and do a repair/re-install of FSX then reinstall Acceleration.
If your FSX was taking ages to load, it maybe because you have a lot of aircraft, you can rename the panels folder of aircraft your not going to use in a particualr session but as your aware it can effect missions.
regards
Steve

I went ahead and uninstalled SP2 and did a repair on my install, then re-installed SP1 and 2. FSX still works, but now it seems to be worse. I have added planes that no longer show up, or do so randomly. I have checked the aircraft.cfg files and this is not the issue. And to boot, the repair did not put the default textures back in their respective folders. I also don't seem to have that user/appdata/roaming, etc file on my computer. I may just back up my flight plans, my logbook, my planes and uninstall, and then re-install on my external HDD. This will indeed be a big ole pain in my butt. It would be nice to know where my FSX.cfg file resides though.

Try to follow Jean's instruction here
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=167297He's running Vista, but the place is the same in win7. You just open fsx instead of fs9
