Something has happened to my smoke/vapor effects...

I noticed last night that when I went to an external view while flying that my plane was "releasing" a large quantity of black squares/blocks. The vapor trails from the wingtips were also very black and blocky. I later saw another plane fly over up in the higher FL's and noticed he was leaving a nice coal black line across the sky. I'm certain that I have changed something in the effects folder, but have no idea what. Any assistance will be appreciated.
I'm not a real pilot, but I play one on FSX.

Hi,
Don't let the title fool you but here's the solution to your problem (most likely):

Black squares in place of the desired effect indicates that the .bmp requred is missing. Check the ...\Effects\textures\.. folder.
Contrails and vaportrails use 'fx_smoke.bmp'. Also check for 'fx_1.bmp' used by other general smoke effects.

Thanks for the link. Have you used this? Or do you know of someone who has? I think this sounds like the winner, I just don't want it to "default" everything that I have done.

Hey painting,
I have used it and no bad side effects. I couldn't locate a previous post that had images of the black smoke squares but it's out there somewhere. Your problem is not that unusual.

Hi,
I Googled "fsx black smoke squares" and found this:

Thank you everyone. This seems to be a very helpful community. I installed the linked program, and that fixed it all right up.
