Default C172 2D Cockpit frame rate issue.

Postby Zaphod » Mon Jul 29, 2013 11:59 am

Hi Guys and Gals.

Does anyone else suffer really poor frame rates in the 2D cockpit view of the default C172? It's worst when banking, but I have no issues with the 3D cockpit which maintains good frame rates throughout.
I normally fly in 3D but sometimes use the 2D as it's easier to get a switches etc.

Hi Trooper.

In 3D view I get anything between 30-50 FPS but in 2D it sometimes drops to single figures while banking.

Do you have your frame rates locked or set to max. I use 30 this should be more than enough but I have never seen the issue you talk about.

Hi Gary.
I normally fly with the frame rate set at unlimited but I tried it locked at 30 and no change, however, I did cycle through the cockpit views ("w" key) and there was no frame rate hit in the extended 2D view or the basic 6 gauges view and surprise surprise, when I returned to the default 2D view the problem appears to have stopped there also.
I need to do some further investigating to make sure it's not something to do with the area that I'm flying over. I still can't understand why the 3D view is fine because I was always under the impression that the 3D cockpit was way more demanding on the display than the 2D?

Watch this space.

I made myself a test in that plane after reading this I also load the glasscockpit 172 and on the contrary the 3d mode view eats more frame rate as in 2d panel view..which is the normal thing because a 3d object, and mdl is loaded in 3d mode ,meanwhile in panel its just a 2d drawing a bmp
This problably has to do with a gauge which has been added and is loading only in 2d mode, Or and original gauge has been replace or added in one of the freeware/payware add on .

I agree with Alrot here. I were confused by the 2d and 3d panel. Normally its the opposite!
How about other planes?

Sorry not to reply earlier guys, been away with the family.
Still trying to track down the root of this problem. It seems that having my frame rate locked on "unlimited" does improve the problem but I'm still not sure whether the cause is something to do with the scenery I'm flying over or something else.
Just one quick further question. What level of zoom does everyone use in the 2D cockpit?

I would refrain from visiting the Bank whilst "flying", Zaph... ;) ...!

That alone can result in money depletion!... :o ...!

Paul.... ...!

P.S...Me?....Frame Rates ALWAYS LOCKED at 20 FPS in both FS2004 and FSX for "smoothness".... ;) ...1

Alex,
I just tried the Glass cockpit 172 and if anything it's even worse. Guess that rules out a gauge? 3D cockpit is fine.

Hi Trooper.
Thanks for the advice. Not all of my settings are maxed but I did reduce my scenery settings from "extremely Dense" to "Very Dense" and thought I saw an improvement. During a flight from my usual airfield (Headcorn/Lashenden UK) the frame rates in the 2D cockpit held steady between 50-70. I then changed to 3D cockpit and all was fine, but when I returned to the 2D it was very poor again with frame rates dropping to single figures. I then cycled through the various 2D views (W key) and all returned to good frame rates.
Curiouser and curiouser.

What I do, Zaph, if I am experiencing problems with a particular aircraft... ....

...I take it to the aeroplane dump in the Nevada Desert, and replace it with another similar (freeware) aircraft which gives me no problems... :D ... ....!

Life is far too short for encouraging stress and sleepless nights over a bleedin' aeroplane!... ...!

This'll please you Fozz...
Just completed the same flight in FS9 with no stutters, no drops in frame rates (locked at 26), great graphics and lots of AI aircraft to keep me company. Also some great grass textures at Headcorn which I seem to remember you recommended back in the day.
Oh why oh why did I stray???

Zaph...
