Add On Scenery

Postby Bubblehead » Tue Jul 16, 2013 3:16 pm

I have two PCs with FSX loaded in each. I have the same files (aircraft, effects, sound and gauges) loaded in each but somehow the scenery in one seemed a lot better than the other. My question is can I delete the mediocre add on scenery and replace it with the better one from my other PC? If yes, do I have to do adjustments in the FSX Scenery Library?

Unlike FS2004 Century of flight FSX does not require any adjustment to the scenery folder when you add a new scenery
Unless you put the scenery in a folder other than the main scenery folder. So when ever you add a new scenery as long as you put the scenery in the main scenery folder FSX will add it with out you having to do anything.
The easy way of doing this is to just copy the folder from one computer to a jump drive than copy to the other computer putting the folder inside of the main FSX scenery folder. If the files you want to copy are not in a folder than you can just copy the file or do what I like to do is to make a folder for the new scenery and put it there. Just follow the instructions below
What you want to do is to make a folder inside of the scenery folder called the name of the scenery you are adding will say it is Florida then inside the folder Florida you want to put another folder called scenery then put your new scenery in the folder called scenery that is in the folder Florida. Now some scenery require another folder called Texture if the original scenery has files inside of the texture folder than you need to copy that over as well
If you have any issues you can always send me a Private message or just reply to this post. I will be glad to help you out.

OK, just to make sure I understand it all. In my FSX Add On Scenery, I see the following:

Corpus
scenery
texture
knpa
scenery
texture

scenery

texture

I believe that the Corpus and the knpa were from the Flight Deck 6 I have previously loaded.

So, I will assign a folder which I will name Sonata and I will make that as a sub folder under "scenery".
Then under Sonata I will add two sub folders named "scenery" and "texture".
Then I will transfer all the scenery files and texture files from the source PC to the target PC.

Unless otherwise directed I will do the above. Note that some of the scenery and texture files from the source PC are already in the scenery and texture folders of the target PC.

Gary: I did as I described in my previous thread however in the FSX Library the folder did not show. I clicked on "Add" and when the FSX folders appeared I clicked on Add On Scenery/Sonata and OK but still it did not appear in the FSX Scenery Library. I must be missing a step or two. Can you refresh again please? Thanks

Because you put the folder in the ADDon scenery FSX will not automatically add it and when adding scenery As Bass states you have to open the individual folder that has the BGL files in it.

That's a new one on me. I just tried an example following your instructions & it doesn't work.

Installing 3rd party scenery to FSX is no different from FS2004 or any other version of MSFS. However, activating it in Windows 7 involves an extra step.

I think I got what I wanted which was to use the scenery of one PC (Looks better) and transfer to my other PC. I copied the desired scenery and texture into a zip, deleted the scenery and texture folders from the target PC, and loaded the scenery and texture folder from the zip into the target PC. Sounds confusing but simply I deleted the folders from the target PC and copied the source PC scenery and texture folders into it. It seem to work.
