To all of you who want the latest and greatest, FSXs issues with windows continue. After installing the Windows 8.1 Preview the other day, I found that FSX simply crashes to desktop when you try to launch it, no errors no nothing. This post is not a plea for help, I will probably just go back to Windows 8, instead, this is a warning to all of you. If you want to try out the 8.1 preview, be warned: FSX probably won't work until the final release comes out. I have looked around the interwobbles and found a microsoft support thread but it has no conclusive solution: Here

Moral of the story: Betas are buggy.

Thank you for the advice. I have windows 7 at the moment, but i'm thinking of getting and new PC, and i looks like windows 8 will be on it.
Is windows 8 ok with FSX and all my addons, because i don't think windows 7 is available anymore with new PC's.

Thanks
MB

I was running Windows 8 before I "upgraded" to 8.1 Preview. FSX worked just fine with Windows 8, I have numerous add-ons and had no problems. My guess is that this problem will probably be fixed by the time the final release of 8.1 becomes available.

Windows 7 is still available.

To each his own, but I have absolutely no desire to even try it at a local store.

Windows versions that I've avoided are;
Windows Bob
Windows ME
Windows Vista
and now Windows 8.

Thanks for the heads up, Lloyd.

I sure hope this gets fixed when 8.1 is released. I've got the 8.1 Preview but haven't tried running FSX on it.
