Realism-Weather

Postby RAMPRAT » Mon Jun 24, 2013 7:23 pm

A question about realism and weather. My home airport is ST.LOUIS INTERNATIONAL. Today 6/24/13 at @ 5pm local time the tempurature was @92 F. However the real world weather on FSX said it was only 60 F. Why such a big difference.

What you need to do in a situation like that,,,,

when its like 92* out, yet the temp and stuff in Flight simulator is lower than where your at is this ----

go to your KITCHEN - turn on the OVEN - and set it to about 400* and open the oven door so the heat can roll out

2nd procedure, would be to get a space heater and sit beside you,,, set it on High

then you'll actually feel some real Temps :):)

that or - drag your computer outside and enjoy some real world temps :)

if YOU made it this far to the end of this message

hopefully you'll realize i'm kidding and i'm totally full of S**t :):)

Keep on' flight simming ~ !!!

You have to remember that FSX uses Jepsen for weather information and it is by no means what the actual weather is at the time you down load it. If you are lucky it was updated at the top of the hour. So if you download weather at 45 minuets after the hour there could be a drastic difference.
The default weather in FSX is by no means the most accurate source you can find but for free it is not to bad.
The only way you can improve on this is by obtaining a third party weather program there are several out there each has its own pros and cons, I use Active Sky Evolution as it works with both FSX and FS9
Here is the link http://www.hifitechinc.com/
The other thing I like about this is the ability to import your flight plan into it and it will generate weather at all of your way points making the weather as close to if not exactly as to what you would find if you were there.
I do not think any program is 100% accurate as you have to remember even in the real world Pilots relay on a weather report that can be several minuets to several hours old.
Even the weather report you get from the tower is only changed every Hour unless weather warrants changing sooner
The bottom line is there is no program that will create the weather at the exact time you start your flight.

First, Jetranger, yes you are full of it!!!!!!!!! Thank you garymbuska for your reply. As a novice, in the flt sim world and computers also, I will stick with fsx weather downloads for now. Would hate to screw up trying to put something on when it took forever just to figure out how to download aircraft etc.

You are quite welcome.
I understand completely do not get in over your head take it a little at a time I did the same thing.
as you get more comfortable with FSX you will want to update things within it and weather is just one of those things.
I now use payware aircraft and Scenery as well to get the most of my flying experience. But than I have been flying flight simulator since back in the mid 90,s. But it was not until I updated my system that I decided to get Better scenery.
