Classic American Trains come to FSX

For those of you like me who longed for some realistic trains to set on the tracks, Dan French has finally given us our wish. He has created a library of over 50 classic American late steam era and early diesel era trains including the liveries of the famous Daylight of Southern Pacific and the famed Super Chief Streamliner and the universally used and loved Pullman passenger cars as well as freight cars and a caboose. Thank you Dan, much appreciated, and there is even a LA late era streetcar, these are designed to work on both FS9 and FSX and with some work can be made to run in AI mode, tho we are still doing research and hope to release some add on packages to install them in major cities and ideal locations. With some re skinning they can work for just about any train of any era.

File Description:
This library contains over 50 models of locomotives (steam and diesel), freight cars, and heavyweight and streamline passenger cars to help you fill your tracks with rail equipment. Built in FS9 modelling, they should work in both FS2004 and FSX sceneries. Night lighting included on some engines and passenger cars. By Dan French.

A great help and contribution to the sim world. thank you Dan.

Just downloaded O0

One quick question though........do you have thumbnails for the objects? I use ADE to place objects and I can't tell what's what without placing them and going into FSX to look at them. I guess I could just use the SDK Object Placement Tool, but I dislike making a bgl. for just one object.

If not, no biggie. I'll place them all somewhere and take my own thumbnail shots.

Thanks again, I always thought that the FS world could use some trains. I'm excited about the possibility of AI train routes.....keep us posted.

Dan Did the work and did a great job, i helped with some textures and research as he wanted to get them accurate and realistic. Enjoy.

sorry about no thumbnails, i thought about that and then Dan finished up the package and posted it before we could think of adding them If you do make some and want to share them with us, or me, I am sure everyone will appreciate it, as it is a big help for using the various editors. I will be happy to send them on to Dan for inclusion to an update. Sorry that we didn't manage to get them in yet.

He didn't provide a link, Pete....just a file name: dlf_lib_classicamericantrains.zip.

Here's a link: http://www.gamefront.com/files/23068715 ... Trains_zip

Maybe he could be persuaded to upload to SimV. I know many MANY more people will see and thereby be able to enjoy the results of his and Dan French's efforts....hint, hint CrisGer O0

Thank you both Pete and Chuck, a fine library and forum here, one of our much depended on and treasured assets for the sim universe.

I was happy that Dan had the time and energy to carry thru on our idea, it really does open some nice chances for us to enhance several of the sims and we are hopeful to get some AI set ups running as people can lend a hand to create them. thanks again for helping us all communicate and share and contribute to these already remarkable sims.

Hi. I assume those are shown in ModelConverterX. I can open the bgl and it says it is reading all of the trains in the bgl. I can only view one engine. How can I get all of the trains to display individually one at a time? Thanks, Bob.

You will have to place them or view them in a viewer such as the model converter.

As all my spare time is engaged developing our sister site right now -- can I just check one thing? Are these scenery design objects? Rather than actual scenery?

If so I will move them into the the 'Scenery design objects' in our site system. :)

Thanks again :)
