Aircraft hopeless brakes

I have an electic collection of downloaded aircraft and like to realisticly taxi them from a parked position to fly. The trouble is that many have totally inadequate brakes, even those that I know in real life can almost turn the aircraft in its own length. Can anyone tell me how to modify the brakes in the cfg. file to improve their power?

This is the brakes section from the default C172 cfg.:

[brakes]
parking_brake = 1 //Parking brake available
toe_brakes_scale = 0.68 //Brake scalar
auto_brakes = 0

I imagine that increasing the Brake scaler number will achieve the desired effect :D

Thanks. I can alter the .68 bit but when I try to save the alteration, I get the message "Access denied". How do I get it to accept the alteration as administrator? Notepad seems to be sealed.

Try dragging the .cfg file onto the desktop with the Mouse, making the alteration, saving it!, then dragging it back into place again!

..also, add this useful entry to the [Brake] section at the same time, if it isn't already appearing there...>>>

differential_braking_scale = 1.0 // rudder activated differential brakes

Paul... :mrgreen: ...!

Right on, Paul.

About adding diff brakes though........I imagine that the aircraft that are supposed to have differential brakes already have that line in the cfg.

If I drag the file onto the desktop then open it I cannot amend it as , when you click the cursor to place it to type , nothing happens so I cannot make any alterations. Can you normally do alterations this way to notepad files?

The problem is solved. What I neglected to do was to change the file type in Notepad to "All Type" files which then allowed me to alter the contents. I'm afraid it did not like the addition of the differential braking notation as this deleted the aircraft from the pictorial listing of aircraft in Flight Simulator,presumably as suggested, because this provision was already in the coding.
Thanks for all your suggestions and help. This gives more confidence to experiment a bit knowing that there are experienced guys out there who can help.

Thanks to some pointers and a bit of exploration this is the method I used to alter the cfg file. There does't seem to be any definative instructions for altering cfg files so this is what I ve discovered---

1. Copy the cfg file from your aircrafts file to Documents.
2.Go to Accessories/Notepad and open it.
3.Alter the tab in the bottom RH corner from "Text Docs" to "All files".
4.The panel in the centre now displays your Documents file.Select and open the cfg file.
5.Make the nessary alterations and click Save at the top.Close Notepad.
6.Go to Documents where you will find the cfg file modified.
7.Copy file.
8.Replace the existing cfg file in your Aircraft file.

Hope this will be of help to anyone with a similar problem.Thanks to those whose replies helped.
