The values I came up with are almost exactly what you are running now John with only a few minor exceptions. Dropping the airline traffic slider by a factor was what allowed the increased FFTF and the results I got. It was amazing just how much of a hit that slider produces going from 40% to 30%.

Since I have the same video card perhaps what you have found will work better. I also have add-on traffic that is not easy to remove and put back. Perhaps between Heretic and myself we can find values to work with. I dont want to loose my traffic

- The cloud drawing radius as well? (I guess...)
- Can I use 3rd party tree textures of the same size as the originals? (Not sure...)

Nick, he's the same way I used to be in the beginning before I even started this thread. I was to busy focusing on my frames than the sim itself. I too was like, "Ehh,...who needs that slider?"

But what I failed to realize is that this sim isn't about frames, but about smoothness. Now that I'm dialed in, I have cars, boats, air traffic, the works. Everything's balanced in my sim & it creates a whole new world!

Stick with the guid, Heretic. No cheats & no shortcuts. You'll be happier that way. Trust me.

Weather to exactly what the sliders show on page 4. Do not mess with clouds and leave them exactly as posted.

How do you know for sure an addon is better or worse if you have not set things up from default?

The only auotgen change is the autogen file Miltest posted on page 4 http://www.fox-fam.com/FSX/AutogenDescriptions.zip

That is a issue PTaylor has said they are aware they screwed up on and the only change I am using past default for setting things up. SP1 will most likely change autogen trees but it may not be done from the descriptions file so save the original in a safe place to put back before running the SP1 update later in April.

That is exactly how you get this right. Every time I use that counter to make a change I mess myself up


I don't use it when testing flights simply because it has too much of a psychological effect on me. I spent years looking at it for performance changes and that made it impossible for me to get FS9 or FSX right. Rendering the text also makes the sim screwie in certain load conditions so having it on does nothing but make your life miserable in MSFS

The replacement tree textures may be fine and work better but as NickN pointed out until everything else is dialed in on your setup you can't know that for sure! Since FSX is so new no one has really sat down and figured out what works and what doesn't. Even my replacement AI causes some stuff I know is making things a bit worse but I am just hard headed when it comes to having scenery to look at. I admit it, but I also accept the downfalls to how I have it set too.

I wonder if I can just remove the Addon traffic bgl files to a temp location and put the original FSX traffic file back to set things up... then go back to the add-on AI after its dialed in. What I am using does not re-write or overwrite any orginal FSX files. It just adds traffic bgl's for the planes I installed and required I remove the FSX traffic bgl file, thats all.

That may work! I'm going to try it. I would mean I dont have to uninstall any planes and can go back and forth to test between the 2 easy.

Ever since I overclocked I left it disabled for most of my testing time.

I *know* the frames are gonna be good, so I can focus on more annoying things like blurs and autogen-popping (Urgh!).

The replacement tree textures may be fine and work better but as NickN pointed out until everything else is dialed in on your setup you can't know that for sure!

I thought about it and he's absolutely right. A well balanced setup is still open to tweaks of whatever kind and if those don't bring the desired effect, you won't have to go back to a config that's messed up.

Even my replacement AI causes some stuff I know is making things a bit worse but I am just hard headed when it comes to having scenery to look at.

Yet, putting the add-on traffic back in would require me to raise the traffic slider again, since some flight plans are triggered by an AI percentage of 80% and more.  I'm gonna try to change that.

Trees= 2250
Bldg = 1100

AG Slider to 2 (Normal)

Also try:


Trees= 1126
Bldg = 563

AG Slider to 4 (Very Dense)


Trees= 1600
Bldg = 800

AG Slider to 3 (Dense)

Set the traffic the same as I posted for heretic
