It's got nothing to do with mesh settings. But it does matter that the OP has addon mesh for the area. It also matters that the OP has a modified airport, which is set to work on default terrain. The default terrain in the area is woefully wrong and the addon mesh causes the airport to be sunken into the ground.

If the OP wanted to try and fix the airport, there is the Prepar3D 1.4 SDK available for download, which is much the same as the FSX SDK.

Not knowing what addon scenery for the airport is installed makes it difficult to know if it's for FSX or FS9, because each requires a different approach.

Or... (shameless plug), there will be a release soonish that will give better mesh and fixed airports, so that people don't have to worry about Microsoft's Mysterious Mesh Manipulations...

Given that this is the FSX board I would guess the OP has the problem with fsx. It would be interesting to know what mesh or if other scenery in that area was installed into FSX?

I should clarify what I meant on the first part. Depending if it's a FS9 scenery being used in FSX or a FSX developed scenery would dictate how to remove the old before trying to make it work 100% with FSX/P3D. It's been a while since I tinkered with FS9 and the workings (IIRC) are different from what we do with FSX/P3D.

Looking at the airport layout (sunken it may be) shows it to be non-default. And the apron/parking areas are off the airport background.

Default elev. is 2,425' and he's been changed to 3,150'~, which matches to what the mesh source for the real world shows. Even in working in more developed areas, like Canada and Alaska, it's "surprising" to see how MS altered things to match the other terrain elements. At one spot mesh may be changed (like here) to match a bad airport elev. and in other areas water changed to match the mesh. But that's why the payware makers make the big bucks...

I wasn't sure either as to how much I could or could not mention payware development. Some forums discourage it, some encourage it. So I tread carefully, lest I run afoul of the Federales. :naughty:

The only thing I want to point out is that if I download the Prepar3D Sdk into FSX it won't work because I have the standard version of FSX>

No, I'm sorry to say that is not correct. It's not necessary to have FSX or P3D installed to use the SDK. As far as any of the utilities that are out there, one BGLComp.exe is much the same as another.

The P3D v1 SDK is generally suggested for users of FSX Standard.

I am considering the option of purchasing the Aerodrome Flattening Mesh tool. Hopefully that will work..... I would just like to know if anybody else has tried this.<<q

Hello. Evan, Are you using any Orbx products like FTX Global and Vector. I have the same problem with KABQ. I have to make sure my Airport Elevation Corrections is set to enable for KABQ to show correctly or it is in the same kind of sinkhole. SKCL Cali is set to disable in AEC and works fine for me.

I am not using FTX Global/Vector, or any other ORBX payware products, although I am currently using their freeware airport addon scenery package for airports in the US (this package also includes some airports outside the United States, but it doesn't include Cali's airport). I just remember reading from what someone else posted in a forum on a different website (who was having the same problem with this particular airport) that using the Aerodrome Flattening Mesh can help to correct this problem by flattening the surrounding terrain. I also read from the website for this product that it can also work with the default terrain in FSX.
