Okay, got it. I had to uninstall SP2, defrag, and do a harddrive cleanup, then reinstall SP2, defrag again, reinstall all updates, and it now works.
Overall I'm very happy with FSX. With my setup I got a constant 12FPS with everything absolutely maxed, and 35FPS with everything in "Ultra High" with a resolution of 1024x768x32.
So I must say I am very happy with what I am seeing, and as soon as I get a second 7900GT then I will be completely satisfied with max everything and around 35FPS. The one thing that I found disapointing was that FSX isn't taking full advantage of both my cores. Its loading the first one fully, and only giving the second about 5% of the load. You guys with dual core processers should take a look at that.
Cheers

Am curious to see how your 7900 x2 works out
Well I can tell you right now that the Vista hardware acceleration really sucks.
As for quad SLi, yea that kinda took a nose dive. It was too expensive, and no one went for it.

I set the resolution to 1024x768 and everything I could at ultra high. I did not move the sliders, will save that for later.
With the lower resolution I averaged 30-35 FPS.
Due to a screw up on an RMAed 7800 I have a second 7950 coming. I got a little excited when I got the news.
The reviews I read on the quad SLI were not that good, but I want to find out first hand.
Would love to try this in Vista but there are still no drivers for the 7950.

That would be great - thanks. My XP Home installation operates through a Netgear router with a built-in hardware firewall, although I do have the Windows firewall disabled.
Run it at the native resolution of your monitor. If it is a CRT and not LCD, and assuming it ca run 80-120Hz refresh, bump the refresh rate up
Native resolution for this monitor (LCD) is 1680 x 1050. With the processor I have I will be quite happy if I can run everything at high.
Ultra high would be nice, but not necessarily a requirement with me.
Return to Flight Simulator X (FSX) and Steam
