I "AM" accepting other people's point of views. What I'm trying to say is that jumping to conclusions without researching and stating them as if they were "fact" is one of the main causes of wild rumors being spread about and then people blindly accepting the rumors as truth without researching first. :-/ So my main concern are the rumors.

I'm seeing too many people on a couple of forums [not just the SimV forums] spreading rumors like this and sometimes shouting out seems to be the only option if I want to reduce the effectiveness of such rumors on various forums. I know it's an impossible task, but someone has to at least try.

I don't want this thread to be hijacked, so I'll say the following to keep it on track:

I don't believe that the economy has anything to do with the EU's personal bias against WMP. The euro is already stronger than the US dollar and the EU's economy is far stronger than the US. Frankly, I like WMP because it doesn't stuff my computer with unwanted ads and useless icons compared to Quick Time and and Winamp.

All very good. Except the US economy is not ahead of Europe. The US economy is barely out of some very deep poo poo with the dollar being worth 54 pence. 10 years ago it was worth nearer 70.

The US has actually artificially lowered the value of the $ to encourage sales back to the US. So its difficult to judge just how bad the situation is.
What has happend is that coupled with its natural deflation and the US also helping it, the values alot lower than they expected.
I think some people need to get their heads out of the EU's backside, and I do find it amazing how some can criticise MS. they have done so much for computers and OS' in general.

I think he was refering to the Beta version. The Beta is already out for anybody at the M$ website.

OMFG, i hate that anti trust thing

I can't be bothered reading all this stuff but I had to pick up on this.

Once upon a time, as a small business, I used to sell computers that I built to other small businesses here in the UK. Was quite good at it too. Used to take 'old' PCs and upgrade them to almost like new machines.

Can't do that now. "Why?" I hear you all shout.

Because through monopolistic agreements between Microsoft, Intel and Dell, I can't even buy the components to construct a machine at the sort of prices Dell are selling whole, complete brand new machines at, including Operating System and (Intel) processor. If Dell had to pay what I'm asked to pay for XP and an up-to-date P-IV cpu they could never do it - basically they must be getting them practically for free. Why? So the US can keep a strangle-hold on the global PC market - probably with the unspoken support of the US Government.

That's why bodies like the EU have to deal with issues like this. They haven't had the balls or the nous to take this one on yet - maybe taking on just one of the three major global players at once is enough right now. But effectively hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of small manufacturers like me are being put out of work by what can only be described as unfair predatory business practices by these huge American corporations.

And all you guys who defend it - just wait until you're on the receiving end of something like that and see how you squawk then.

PS - and just look all you Brits how all the public bodies like the BBC, the police etc etc etc have been taken in by this - they all use Dell kit rather than something produced locally that would create jobs and employment. Who knows, if enough public corporations insisted we could force Intel and MS to give British manufacturers the same sort of deals that they give to Dell... yeah, who said ha-bloody-ha...

Hmm... I didn't realize that. But that still doesn't explain the fuss over WMP. I mean, it's only a media software for crying out loud. If the EU doesn't like it, why don't they just uninstall it manually and install other programs like Winamp, Real Player or Quick Time? Again, I don't see the point in bickering over a simple software that is freely downloaded.

For one WMP corrupted my soundcard software FORCING me to get another. The list is endless.  And I have to remnd you that despite paying hundreds of millions of dollars to their lawyers IN the US M$ LOST the case and HAVE TO comply.

I've noticed that this thread is becoming very political, and all about:  My problems, my opinions, and such.

Also, its much like an argument.  This is a DISCUSSION FORUM, not argument forum.
