I may be mistooken, BUT, did not MS disband their R&D contingent for FS11, or any, development(s)? :'(

I heard that they fired everyone, then rehired who they wanted to keep. Technically they disbanded ACES, but that doesn't mean FS11 is dead.

Lets get the record strait

FS11.. at least the FS11 we would have known, is indeed dead

What will come is not going to be the 'full world' stand alone simulation we know from the past. Although there will a 3D flight release it will be something different from the simulation FS9 and FSX presents.

I just hope they don't decide to make a game out of FS :-X

Or worse still, release it as an XboX exclusive Image

Cheers

Maybe I don't understand what you are saying....

We won't be able to choose our airports and flight plans and go anywhere in the world? What's the point then? It's not a simulator without it.

They need to consult with long-time MSFS enthusiasts.

I've no doubt about the Aces Team enthusiasm.. but there was still a disconnect. The team overlooked, or neglected certain aspects in FSX.. spent too much time/energy/resources on other aspects. And.. there were too many little nagging things, that got past testing(mainly cockpit functionality). This was true in FS(any-version).. always left me scratching my head.

I hope.. whatever it is they're working on.. they get good input.

The ideal consultant would be...

-Long-time MSFS user-

-Experienced, real-world pilot-

-Working knowledge of model design and testing (all aspects)-

-Enough computer programming experience to understand what is, and is not, feasible-

;)

I could never see a flight sim on XBOX because you wouldn't be able to control everything.

Yes, absolutely.
I find it interesting that developers spend so much time researching minor details of aircraft technology, but have little interest in researching what the customer wants.

A case in point is the old Rowan title BATTLE OF BRITAIN. They had a clickable cockpit, so when you went through the engine-start procedure for the Spitfire, you had to click on the mags and fuel cocks, then click and pull the primer, and then click on the starter.
Quite a few people thought this was unnecessarily cumbersome.

When Rowan went bust, they allowed the game code to be passed on to a fan group, who ripped it apart and made some fantastic improvements, eventually releasing the Sim as BATTLE OF BRITAIN II WINGS OF VICTORY.
Being a group of fans, they discussed the project on a forum, and based patches on what the customers wanted.  One thing customers did want was to be able to press real buttons for engine starting, and not use cumbersome clickable-cockpit switches. The new developers listened, and that has now been implemented. (Although, so as not disturb the grognards who prefer clickable cockpits, that was left in as a choice too.)

So my point is that M$ should get its head out of the clouds and come on forum boards like this to get some idea of what the customer wants.
Don't they teach research in business anymore?

MSFS always was a bit of a mystery; considering that MS was its parent. Almost like, "too good to be true".. that they'd allow a freeware community to thrive.. let alone let OTHER companies profit from add-ons. It really doesn't matter what happens. FSX, FS9, and even XPlane have the potential to keep me entertained for years and years.

As far as cockpit flyability... I can model VCs.. make anything I want, clickable..

Then I'd say that you're wasting your time on this thread, because you appear to have no wishes for the future development of the FS series. You're a happy bunny with what you've got, so for you, everything's all right with the Flight Sim World.

Now, I may be wrong, but this thread seems to me to be an opportunity for people who would like to see future development in the FS series, to state what they feel would improve the current FS Sim.
I think that's why it has "wishlist" in the title.

I would really hope that FSX aircraft would be compatible with the new sim. A more detailed settings menu would be great too! I'd also like there to be a wider range of default aircraft. There were too many single engined props in my opinion. I think there were six default single engined props on FSX; the Cessna C172, Cessna Grand Caravan, DeHavilland Beaver, Extra 300, Maule Orion and the Piper J-3.
The aircraft range should be larger and more exotic. Sure, keep the Cessna C172 and maybe the Grand Caravan too, but put some WW2 single engined fighters in there like the Spitfire, Bf-109.
I would also like to see the following (or at least some of the following in the default sim):
-F-86 Sabre
-Concorde
-Airbus A380
-Some cold war era prototype fighters.

Oh, I have plenty of wishes, and have stated some of the key ones, earlier in this thread. I'm just following another ebb/flow that happens when a thread runs 17+ pages. You need not concern yourself with my time .. I've got plenty to spare

You're forgetting the Mooney Bravo (although that may be Deluxe package only) ...That puts the count at 7.  :P

I never stopped to think about this, you're right... the selection is way too biased towards single props... I would like to see more variety in a future release

About my XboX comment, you'll have to excuse me... I'm a little paranoid now, playing GTA IV on the PC and suffering over the terrible rushed port they made from the XboX... it has the Microsoft greedy anti-pc-gaming thing written all over it... and I can't help not fearing such a scenario in the current FS situation  ::)
