Please drop the memory voltage to 1.9v tonight, even if you do not fly a test flight. 2.0 is the max although 2.1 can be pushed and I would prefer that stay as low as possible and still run stable.

Tomarrow fly again on 1.9v and see if its stable and if so, we will go from there

I will do that now right after I log. I'll let you know how stable it is tomorrow night when I get home from work.

I got the message about the power supply. Keep the memory voltage at 2.0 for the flights

With the exception of units made a few years ago, Antec is one of the worst power supplies on the market. Their 650watt tri-rail unit actually delivers less amps to a system then a dual rail Enermax 485watt.

Post the model of the Antec supply you are currently using and I will look over the specs. I suspect you are running low current for the consumption needs.

Upgrading that is no guarantee you will get a better clock however running a power hungry system on a weak PSU is not doing it any good either. A system runs much smoother and cooler on a power supply that can deliver the needed juice and have at least 20-25% in reserve.



One last thing.. you're motherboard (unofficially) supports DDR2800 memory. That is not posted on the specs for the board but with BIOS upgrade, you have made it possible to run PC6400 sticks (or higher) The problem is the motherboard is limited because of the chipset and may not exceed 1333 FSB or 333Mhz per shotgun bus.

Such a purchase would be expensive but that is why when a motherboard and memory combination are initially considered it is important to get the product that will do the work and have plenty to spare for the stability end.

We may not be able to get the current memory product to run 333 with the motherboard. A better PSU will help but there is no guarantee of that because of the limits imposed by the chipset.





EDIT: I received a message from a Corsair engineer that tells me the memory modules you have will indeed work just fine at a voltage of 2.1v on Asus motherboards so we are fine with playing in that area. The JEDEC spec says 2.2v is the limit with a critical failure point of 2.4

May I throw a quick question out to Nick?

I have a HP laptop, brand new. In the BIOS there aren't any options to alter speeds/voltages and other such settings. Is there any BIOS I can flash onto my ROM to enable these options, or are they permanantly looked out? The motherboard is a Quanta 30BD. There is a flash available on the HP website, but it only enables CPU C4.

EDIT: I've just noticed something weird. On CPU-z it says my CPU is running at 997Mhz, on a 1.83Ghz Core 2 Duo.

I will do a rundown on the model number you provided. The 3.3v @ 20A looks low. I will check it out and post back a bit later.

Keep flying on the settings you have and we will try a few more. I will post some changes for you to try so we can see if there is a possibility of going higer with the hardware you currently have.

If there is no setting in the BIOS to work with there is nothing you can do. Sometimes on laptops its a setting called "performance' or something like that.

As for why its running slower than it should, if there are no BIOS settings to work with, typically that is controlled automatically by the type and speed of memory that is installed

however... Intel and laptops have a power save mode that the processor will drop its multiplier and frq to conserve power. If there are fetaures in the BIOS which shut down the process and system power save settings, then it should show full speed on CPUz

EDIT: Check the Windows power settings... sometimes you can set the system to ALWAYS ON and it will override the BIOS

Just because CPUz shows a slower speed does not mean there is anyhing wrong with power save enabled you are simply not drawing enough to force the laptop to kick into high gear. Open the internet and play a music file at the same time while watching CPUz. You will most likely find the speed will kick back up to normal
