Does FSX run in Widescreen?

I really didn't want to get into any pedantic discussions, just in case I sounded pompous and condescending. I tried to keep my question simple, in the hope that someone who was actually flying FSX on a widescreen monitor would instantly understand what I was asking, and be able to respond in detail.

I actually have three 22" widescreen monitors on my flightsim machine.

I also use one 22" widescreen and one 22" 4:3 screen on my development machine.

I've run FSX on my fs machine with the fsx.cfg entry set both ways, and to be perfectly frank can hardly tell the difference because the effect is so subtle...  ;D

In any case, as I stated above, that entry has no effect whatever on the 2d panel system. That is the only part of FSX that won't run properly "out of the box" but will require user intervention if it is a significant matter to them.

"Oval gauge faces". That's definitely NOT displaying properly.

How do you get round gauge faces AND fill the widescreen monitor?

Understand that this is ONLY when using the 2d panel. One method that many use is to grab the right edge of the 2d panel and move it to the left side until the gauges are "round," then fill the area on the right side with something like the "radio stack".

Moreover, this same issue occurs when using FS9, so it's not something "new..."  :o

Otherwise, you would need to create a widescreen version of the 2d panel and adjust the gauges to fit.

However, that said, keep in mind that moving forward 2d panels are going to go the way of the do-do bird... full extinction... ;)

you must edit the FSX.cfg file and change the line to:
[Display]
WideViewAspect=True

Nick, that entry effects only the 3d system. It adjusts the "out the window" aspect ratio when in 2d panel view, as well as the aspect ratio of any other view.

It has ZERO effect on the 2d panel itself, which will continue to be stretched horizontally resulting in oval gauge faces.

His first post didnt ask about 2D panels .. he asked about wide screen support which is what I posted how to enable it since no one had mentioned the setting in the config

On my 24in monitor the sim looks like crap without it set to widescreen and I dont care about 2d panels as I only fly VC

2D looks fine on mine although there are exceptions with some planes and I rarely if ever keep an aircraft that only has 2D and no VC.. and if the aircraft maker did not take into account panel or VC scaling in the design and it looks distorted on my screen, ... those aircraft go away fast on my system

:)

Who are you trying to kid, Nick?  You don't have TIME to fly with all the email you have to answer and the work on Gex.

Just to add to the fun,I've just had a minor glitch that has meant in the last few days I have formatted my computer.

Obviously setting everything up to run(including screen resolutions)is first off the rank.

Then we put in FSX---no problem, all runs fine. I even went and checked the 2D panel(only fly VC) and that is fine as well.

I can't add any more than that, once again,it runs fine out of the box.

Red on White you're alright.
