Wanna know why Autogen drives your system mad?

FSX including FSX Steam version.

Hi PhilTaylor!  Autogen works great on my system.  Maybe even too well because I spend way too much time admiring it.   I paid $900 just for the RAM and motherboard, and the results show it.  Cheers!

[quote][quote] b. volume of data being generated and sent downstream

Of the three, I suspect the most critical is "b" since FSX is capable of generating and send far more data than any current hardware is capable of handling.

Willumarryme or whatever, they are great screen shots.

Sure I can have problems over urban areas, but my main problem is at airports.  And these are the places I hate to dumb down.

For a pilot they are the exciting places and I love the detail of X, and it is where I have to move the sliders left.

I begin negotiating on RAM and a second vidcard today, because even Nick concedes that if I persist with matrox THG then SLI may benefit.

Airports are huge CPU hits due to 3 things

1. Traffic - the number one issue is the default AI models are not very FR friendly. 3rd party traffic can help but if you are pushing things too hard it can still bring a system to its knees

2. Airport Vehicles - these should never exceed MEDIUM and if you do not use the fuel and baggage truck features, drop that to LOW

3. Scenery Complexity w/AL-GA sliders - With Scenery Complexity set to VERY DENSE and above, default AI traffic slider levels will produce a double whammy and will call jetways and run calculations for airport gates in a 50-120nm radius of your location for every gate and at EVERY airport in that radius. Some replacement AI packages still call those gates.. it depends on what is being used. This is a MAJOR CPU KILLER and because of that, the AI sliders will have a significant impact.

Set Airport Vehicles to LOW and reduce AI to 15% each and see if airports are still a major drag. If not, then you have to tweak that based on what the system can handle. CPU and memory speed will be the factors that will impact that part of the sim the most. As a matter of fact.. if you find airports are very flyable after setting traffic as listed, you will find performance even away from airports has increased.

I do not use the tweak. My hardware can handle the slider at 100% without issues but I also use GEXn too.

For Europe, Anthony and I are taking a calculated approach in texture/AG creation...
1.   Chaser MK-1 Full Tower ATX Computer Case
2.   Core i7 3770K 1155 Processor OC to 4.7 GHz
3.   ASUS Maximus V Gene Motherboard
4.   EVGA GTX580 1536MB Video Card
5.   16 GB C8 G.SKI

Hi Nick,

Ever so nice looking though they are, those new textures really do look way too bright for most of europe IMHO.

I think I did post they are a work in progress.. they are not finals

One of the last things I do after the entire area set is completed is to apply photo filters based on images from the area. I must also take into consideration the fact that FSX textures are used all over and it can be difficult to color/lighting match because that may carry into another section of the world. So that process is the last one I apply and what you are seeing in that respect is not what will be in the final package.

The images were posted to demo the AG, not the textures. I was using them to demo the correcty way to approach AG layout and volume.

I appreciate they're work in progress Nick and if they improve the look of Europe half as well as they did for the US, I'll be happy to fly around at home again  ;)

Cheers.
