Unfortunately that error is one that will not lead me back to a possible cause. Usually it will post exactly which .dll rr exe file forced the crash however in this case the report is generic and does not provide that information.

I have a question... have you tried to install the stand-alone SP2 update without Acceleration with the same result? If not, uninstall Acceleration, reboot... verify FSX opens and runs... then install the single SP2 service pack (assuming you do have SP1 installed)

Yes I have installed sp2 by itself and it does the same. If you cannot fix it I will call microsoft and see if they have any idea.

Assuming there are no 3rd party add-ons installed and you have tried to uninstall any/all 3rd party addons, directX was updated, at this point I would say it is hardware/driver related.

The only driver setting enabled in ATI I have seen cause problems with FSX is 'Catalyst AI' however I never saw it crash the sim.

There is really nothing else I can suggest so I would contact tech support and see what they may come up with. If they do manage to come up with a solution, please post it because I have seen this on laptops a few times with no resolution, except for one where the laptop was able to upgrade the drivers

I have been talking to someone at microsoft online for awhile and they cannot figure it out yet but if and when they do I will post it.

Well after talking to microsoft they said it was probably corrupted windows files and told me to reinstall the OS, which I do no know how to do and don't want to either. So there is most likely the issue. :'(

Sounds like a typical generic response form MS tech support when they do not know themselves what is going on

I really doubt a reinstall of Windows would change anything. This only happens with SP2. My bet is still on the video adapter/drivers, especially since I have seen this before with laptops and the cure has been upgrade of the drivers

ok good because I did not want to reinstall the OS.
