the clean boot worked  I got FSX installed and it is better than ever!!  thank you for all your help and advice..it only took 6 installs, sigh, time to defrag..

OK then there is something booting with the system that is not allowing a read or write to take place

There is an entire list of possible software installs from CD Burning software to secuity programs that can cause that.

Glad its working now but in the future you may have the same problem until you clean boot of find out which program is starting with windows causing the issue
