K...  I hope it'll work well.  Outta curiousity, what do you guys get fps wise?I know it's not what I'll get, but it's a comparison of what I could get.  And I don't think Microsoft is going to continue with the pattern of releasing a new FS every 2 years (in 2008) if they made FSX this competitive and advanced.

I get 15-19 in cities. I dont apply any tweaks so take that into effect. I have an AMD Athlon X2 3800+, 177 Gig HD, 2 Gig Ram DDR2, eVGA 7950 GT KO Superclocked.

As for my computer, stock it had a 250 GB hard drive, the dual CD drives (don't know that that has to do with this but), 2 GB of memory (came with one but we updated to two), 4200+ AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor.

Like many I have cut my tweaks back, but some definitely help.  Look at the FSX and SP1 thread for suggestions.

I reduce the numbers of trees and buildings using the MAX_AUTOGEN etc tweaks (2 lines).
I have put in a larger Buffer Pool size as that reduces stutters if you have a reasonable video card
And I use the JobScheduler tweak because I have a dual core CPU.

Most of the others I now no longer use, but with these three I can fly with max-ed or near max-ed sliders with smooth graphics.

Don't get hung up on framerates - it is smooth that you want.

Yah I mean, I don't really care how many FPS it really is, just along as it's not choppy (enough FPS so that it runs smooth) and that graphics are smooth as well.

Now the question is which version to get.  Isn't there like a platinum edition out or something?

Buy the De Luxe version. It makes no sense to buy the cut-down version. Get all the flexibility that you can. It may contain extras you think you don't need now but you'll kick yourself when you find out you do.  And I understand that FSX can be bought through the e markets legitimately at bargain prices.

Any game that is based on hardware not yet on the market is going to have a tough first year - and the marketplace has reacted accordingly.

I went stright from 2002 to FSX, so have noticed a world of difference.
However initially it nearly got binned, due to
1:- machine randomly rebooting, due to only slightly out of date graphics card.
2:- frame rate. same reason and ram and proc speed
3:- lack of proper stick, I could fly 2002 with game pad, but fsx is too real world, I had to buy a sidewinder stick.

Now however I lurv it. am setting up my own airline, and maing videos and screenshots.

buyit!!!

PSU too weak or computer overheating.

I love FSX.
FS9? A stone age sim.

Dont get me wrong FSX is great but............FS9 i think isnt gonna be a stone age sim for a while either because its still very good at being a flight simulator or people cant buy a computer that will run FSX any good.

Yah lucky for me I apperently have a great computer for this and a Logitech Attack3 controller (it's cheaper at 60 but is better than any other joystick I've ever used).

Just to be over-the-top, I have two controllers hooked up.  The CH yoke for aircraft that fly with that set up, and a Logitech Attack 3 for Airbus and stick based planes like the Cub and Extra.
