I'm with Paul. I'm staying within mother earth's grasp. This isn't a space simulator. ;)

Nope. FS2004.com forums as well. ;D

BTW, you should ask Ozzy, not me. Just look at his post count and you'll see why. ;D

And yet you smile? ???

The only way FS will ever get close to space simulation is if they add new control systems controlling mini-rockets.

I once made an asteroids-like game, but with more realism than most.  You notice how in asteroids when you turn, its turn-stop, turn-stop?  In mine, rockets which were fired (it had effects!) slowly began to turn the craft, and if you released the turn button, the ship would continue turning until you fired rockets the other way.  This was more realistic, and much more challenging.  (Hey, great name: Challenger)  Maybe I'll continue developing it.

I was implementing this feature as well when I stopped developping my little flight simulator.
The main thing is around vector and moments of forces.
With that stuff, you can of course model those little rocket engines to orient your craft in space, but more importent, you can also model correctly the flight of a Harrier jet (or any vector-thrust aircraft) and the reactions of the control surfaces of any plane, which is pretty much what FS lacks at the moment, while X-Plane has it fully implemented :)

.

The fact is that up to now, nobody really confirmed that the flight was possible into space. The camera can go for sure, but will we be able to go into the map display, and set our aircradt altitude to 120 kms and speed to 8000 m/s ? I couldn't read anything that would tell it explicitely...

Impulse engines, of course, also known as " slewing"
