If one uses nothing but auto brake the only thing that will happen is the brakes will be applied depending on the setting 1 for a little or max for full brakes.
No spoilers will deploy using just auto brake.
The biggest difference between spoilers and speed brakes is spoilers are located on the wing and usually deploy upwards. Which is why they make the wing loose lift because they brake up the airflow going over the wing.
Speed brakes are usually found on the fuselage and deploy outwards If these are deployed to long it can cause the aircraft to stall because of lack of air speed has nothing to with disrupting the airflow over the wing.
Has anyone ever noticed the small spoilers on the wing of the default Mooney this is the only single engine air craft that i have ever seen with some kind of spoiler but I have to admit they are not very big and not shaped the usual way.


If people are getting confused about this then it makes me wonder if they know what slats are for and where they are found and if they play a important part in landing or taking off. :?:

If these are deployed to long it can cause the aircraft to stall because of lack of air speed has nothing to with disrupting the airflow over the wing.


Well, when you think about it, the slower the airspeed, the higher the AoA, all else staying the same, and when the AoA get's high enough the airflow over the wing is disrupted by lifting off the wing's surface, causing turbulence and a loss of lift, a very similar effect to spoilers.

Slats are located on the leading edge of hte wings, and act to increase the wing's camber at low airspeeds, giving the wing more lift at low speeds, but increasing the drag. The slats are deployed at low airspeeds and high AoA's, such as can be found during take off and landing (on passenger jets) and high AoA maneuvers on military fastmovers. This permits lower speeds at take off and landing, and when retracted, higher speeds for cruise.
Slats are normally deployed as part and parcel of the flap system, altho some military jets, such as the F86, had them built in such a way that they would slide out and down slightly when airflow over the wing slowed enough to permit their movement, effectively making them "automatic", altho in a mechanical way only.
