What Ive heard

Postby cavity » Fri Oct 06, 2006 3:43 pm

From what Ive read and viewed at numerous other sites, it appears that most computers will run FSX well without blurries and stutters, even on modest machines. The big problem posted by most  is the autogen, which seems to drop frames from 50 to 75%, which is obviously a large amount.  Most have reported great scenery above 1500 ft even with autogen turned off, so if the autogen issue can be resolved, we may be in for some smooth flying, something Ive never really achieved with FS9 and my system.  Todd

Considering the number of members that said they have it already, things have gone suspiciously quiet. ::)

John, I remember way back when 2004 came out and our systems were almost identical and we both shared the exact same issues.  You have gone on to upgrade, something I am waiting to do when Vista and DX10 come along.  I have read many of your posts seeking the exact same thing I have always desired,  a stutter free performance, which never seems to happen even with good frames.  I have settled on the fact that I wont achieve it with this version on my system, but FSX and a new system will offer hope for a resolution.   Heres wishing you and all the other members good luck with the new version!  Todd

Funny, I've been thinking the same thing Hagar.  ;) I would think people are more anxious to show stuff off...

Yup Todd,...... if anyone looks back a the early fs2004 stuff here on SimV they can see the documentation for the "search for the holy grail" that a lot of us were on...... and unfortunately never found.

What do you think we've been doing. ;D

I've got some shots of FSX HERE, and from what I can tell, I have a moderate amount of autogen set, and I can still get ~20-25 FPS over wilderness areas, and ~15-20 FPS over cities and populated areas.  But you can't really expect to run it at max settings the day you get it, so I am very happy with how well it runs for me now. ;)

Alright, here we go, I've got autogen and scenery complexity set to "Dense", and there are still two more settings above that, and here are a couple of shots of what I was getting...

I think FSX wasn't designed to run on *todays* top end machines. It's been programmed with a couple of years stretch to give the product shelf longevity. Personally I wasn't expecting it to run at it's maximum capability with my computer. But I know when I upgrade it'll still have something to give me in reward.

This is still October 6th is it not?
FSX just came out today and this is my third post already. I didn't install it until 0000Z and it's only 0217Z now. give me a break!  :P

Here's two shots to hold you over . . .

I really don't have a lot to say about FSX because I've spent less than two hours on it -- but standby one . . .

This normally happens after a realease of a new sim
a flurry of posts when everybody says they got it and first impressions then it goes quiet for a week or two as they get down to seeing what they can or cant do then another flurry of post saying how it "sucks and they need to change"

This is an endless cycle that is as inevitable as death itself. There's nothing we can do to stop it so we all have to suck it up.

I'm holding my breath waiting for these screenies because without trying to upset anyone, I've not seen anything yet that looks better than FS9.

Reckon the only way anyone can get any kind of decent FR is with all the effects turned way down - but I remain to be convinced  ;)
