product activation

FSX including FSX Steam version.

product activation

Postby jerry pope » Thu Dec 19, 2013 5:38 am

I purchased Flight Simulator X. It installed correctly but when I tried to activate it using the correct produce code inside the box it refused to accept it.

I tried reinserting the disc and selecting repair to no avail. I am running on Windows 8 with the sim working well for the duration of the trial period.

Microsoft are of no help. Does anybody know of a bypass that will enable the continuous normal operation?

A brand new copy of FSX in a sealed jewel case?
I didn't know there was a trial version!
All my various Flight Sim versions have installed from new, using the product activation code supplied inside the sealed boxes.

(Make sure you are installing it with Windows administrator rights)?

QUESTION ???

When this happens, since Microsoft no longer supports flight simulator

why couldn't somebody else who has flight simulator whatever version,,, just give him their user key #, and try that .

or is it strictly tied to individual disks ???

wondering ???

That would defeat the whole purpose of the key to start with. It is just like Windows nowadays there is no version of Windows 8 that allows multiple users one disk one computer.
Now If you uninstall FSX on your system than you should be able to let someone else use it.
What you are talking about would be considered pirating

One thing you might check is that a O or 0 (letter O or number 0) in the code. Sometimes those can throw you off. I don't remember if the FSX code uses both letters and numbers or not, but just wanted to mention this, just in case.

@Paul. I think the pope is right. You are able to run FSX within a certain amount of time before activating it! (M$ again)

@pope. Some, if not many, are having trouble activating a new FSX. M$ activation site are closed. You might need to call M$ by phone to get it running, AND be sure you get in contact with the right person
This is how M$' customer service run their business today! Not what i'll call good service :naughty:

Did you use the default location to install with? If so It is wise not to install FSX in the program files using Windows 7 or 8 due to the protection of files in this area. The best place to install FSX is on a drive that does not have your operating system on it. But since a lot of people only have the one hard drive than you need to make a folder anywhere other than the program file folder. And you must install FSX using ADMINISTRATOR rights and run it that way as well.
As you can see by my signature I use windows 8 64 bit and have both FSX and FS9 installed on different hard drives. But than I have two internal hard drives and 1 external hard drive that plugs into my USB 3.0 port

I've never had to contact Microsoft, phone or mail, to register any of my Flight Sims for installation since FS '98....FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, FSX...

It has always been done via the included Product Code contained within the sealed jewel cases or manual during the DVD installation.

Just had a peek inside the jewel case of my FSX Deluxe Edition, and the Product Code is included inside the case, ready to enter during installation process.

No problems.

Several months ago I had to reinstall FSX.

It was originally bought online from MS a couple of years ago.

I'd burned the original files to DVD, but for some reason it wouldn't install. Off to Amazon.com for a new FSX Gold.

Long story short, it will run for a short time in demo mode if you put the wrong code, or no code in.

My guess is that jerry pope has typed in a wrong code letter or number.

BTW - MS doesn't use O, o, or 0 (zero) in their product codes.

As to letting someone else use your product code, no go. MS does still sell FSX in it's various versions, and it will still check it on activation.

The disks are not matched with the activation code. After receiving FSX Gold I activated the Acceleration part with my old product code.

They will even provide a limited amount of support, although I've usually found their support to be useless.

This is just a WAG (and for you funny talkers on the other side of the pond that means Wild A$$ Guess), I think that what support that MS does provide for the software that they "no longer support" is actually part of their training system.

Just a side note - My guy was in India (yes, I did ask him where he was), he used a Euro-American first name, and spoke American English with a slight accent. I'm willing to bet that had I called from London, someone with a British accent would have been on the line.

Be sure that you use it properly.

PS - don't confuse this WAG with the scientific WAG.

FSX is different from the others Paul. Yes, the product code is included in the package but after entering it you had to activate (register) it online. Otherwise it was limited to 30 minutes a session. You must have done this when you last installed it.

Since MS stopped supporting FSX this is no longer possible. I think the only way of doing it now is to phone them. Fortunately I haven't had to reinstall FSX but from what I've read on other FS forums there might be problems activating it if you're in Europe or the UK.
