Graphic vs. Performance

Postby Bubblehead » Sun Dec 09, 2012 3:38 pm

My PC specs as follows: Asustek M3A32-MVP DELUXE, 3.2 GHz AMD Phenom II X4  955 Processor, 700 Gbytes HD Cap. 3 GBytes Memory, AMD Radeon HD 6670 Video Card.

Lately but occasionally my game is interrupted by a message stating that FSX has to shut down due to not enough memory and to adjust graphic and scenery settings. What settings do I have adjust to stabilize performance?

It's the lack of RAM that's killin' you..........your processor and graphics card should handle FSX pretty well. Your best option is to add more RAM to your system. It's relatively inexpensive compared to a processor or video card upgrade ;)

That being said........I think that turning down these settings may help:
Scenery Complexity, Autogen Density, Level of Detail Radius, and Texture Resolution.

Obviously, turning these settings down will cause a loss in display quality :(
Have you tried Bjote's Tweaking and Tuning Tool for FSX? It's pretty useful for tweaking the cfg. file ;)

i got WinXP Home Edition 32 bit and I believe I am limited in the amount of RAM unless I go to 64 bit. Is it possible to go to 64 bit?

I took out my mobo User's Manual and the article on RAMs explained that although I can install 4 Gig of RAM in the 4 DIMM slots that the system can only use less than 3 Gigs. So it seems like the limitation pertains not only to my OS (WinXP 32 Bit) but also the mobo itself. If I upgrade my mobo and CPU and go with Win7 64 Bit, that should take care of things. I've always used Asus mobo and AMD processors should I jump to i5 or i7?

I have Vista 64 Bit and I believe it uses the full 7 Ram I got. But I am not sure! You can ask somebody from a PC-store, they usually know it.

Your motherboard can handle up to 8go of RAM, but you need a 64bits system to actually use it.
32 bits systems are only able to adress 4go of memory, including the video card memory.

I think I may have to upgrade my mobo and processor and load Win7. Wish instead of MS going with the new MS Flight, they should just improve FSX and make it less demanding on the hardware.
