Jerky Instant Replays

Postby BigT-65 » Mon May 07, 2012 9:52 pm

Every now and then I would like to take a look at an instant replay to evaluate a landing or some other manuver but the instant replay is jerking all over the place particularly back and forth. Does anyone know why this is happening. I have tried slowing the replay down but that doesn't make any difference. My machine has enough power to run FSX full out so I don't think it is machine related. I don't think I have every been able to get a smooth replay with FSX.All the older versions worked fine.

Usually, the jerkyness is worse from the "Spot" view.

I have had the same issue even though my computer can otherwise run FSX fine... So I will be interested to know what causes it!

Me too. Even with FsRecorder.

In FS recorder, check your record interval.

But in the in-sim replay, again, try "fixed spot" instead of "spot".

Guys, seriously, just avoid the default recording. It's bad. The recording of the aircraft movements are extremely imprecise and really occur once per second only !
The default replay is a total joke.

Use FS-Recorder. This is the one and ONLY way to get a real precise recording of your flight.

The "Locked Spot" view has certainly improved my replays in Fs Recorder. One thing I don't understand though. In what way is the view "Locked?" I can still pan around the aircraft in the same way as I do in "Spot" view?

Zaphod ;)

Edit;
Answering my own question, it's the difference between a "Direct transition" and a "Fluid transition."

I think the main way it is "locked" is that the view stays locked relative to aircraft and does not show the acceleration effects if you are dipping, turning, or do other movements.  In regular "Spot" view, you can see acceleration effects during maneuvers.

OK, I loaded up FS Recorder and it is working pretty good. No more jerking around. The only problem I have experienced with it is that you have to tell it to start recording instead of it just being on all the time. What if I didn't know I was going to have to look at a recording. Like if I crashed and didn't know why?

From the FSRecorder Manual:

'Instant Replay
If instant replay is enabled in the Settings dialog, you can always replay the last time of your
flight, even if you didn't start recording before. To replay a certain time of your flight select
Instant Replay from the FS Recorder menu.....'

Once it's activated in the Settings (which it is by default) it's always recording, just like the default recorder.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
