Helicopter collective problem

Postby christrom » Fri Sep 03, 2010 6:56 pm

Hi Folks,

I have downloaded some different helicopters to use in FSX but I have noticed that when I set the cyclic all the way down, the heli just drifts down slowly, rather than decreasing rapidly as per the standard helicopters included in FSX. Am I doing something wrong or is it a characteristic of the helis?

Many thanks :-)

Which helicopters are you using?

Also, the helicopter won't necessarily drop like a rock if you dump the collective. Your airspeed determines your descent rate in this case.

Ex: You can dump collective and increase your angle of attack to arrest a rapid descent rate up to a point. Conversely, you can nose over and dive....

I have been using a chinook and a few other standard helicopters from this site. I put the heli into a hover so there is no forwards motion and then reduce the collective just as I would with a standard FSX helicopter, but it just seems to more or less stay put. Eventuaally it loses altitude but very slowly. If I'm doing something wrong I'm sorry, as I'm only a beginner
