Issue on takeoff

Postby pmatthews83 » Sun Aug 29, 2010 9:56 am

I recently got into FSX and I'm loving it.  I have noticed something that drives me crazy however.  On takeoff after I have lined up, as soon as I increase throttle the aircraft veers off the runaway with some aggravating results.  I have calibrated my joystick so that's not the issue.  Any thoughts?

Hi there. What you describe is quite normal & will depend on the aircraft.  P-Factor, Torque & Gyro effects can be counteracted with opposite rudder. You can change the different variables from the Aircraft Realism settings.

I copied this from the FS2004 Learning Center. FSX will be similar. I suggest setting the Flight Model on Easy to start with.

The flight model refers to the extent that certain forces act on your aircraft. The more realistic you make these settings, the more challenging your flying experience will be.

P-factor refers to the asymmetrical thrust generated by a spinning propeller. It contributes to the left-turning tendency of single-engine airplanes and twin-engine airplanes that lack counter-rotating propellers.

If you are flying planes with a yaw damper, especially jets, turn it off untill you are climbing, it can produce the same effect. Winds across the runway will also do it.

You aren't using the Rudder are you?
Some badly made aircraft has that issue, or for some reason the Aircraft.cfg file has been modified to this setting.

I had one issue that the aircraft won't put the nose up, but after I reinstall the aircraft, it works like a charm
