missing textures on addon planes

Postby burney » Sun Mar 28, 2010 12:17 pm

I have a problem with downloaded airplanes. I run FSX under Windows 7. I have downloaded 3 airplanes; all of them show up - but without textures, I just see the naked model. One of them shows the textures from within the plane, but not in an outside view. I've serches the forum, but I didn't see the problem describes anywhere.

I've read that FS 2004 planes might work, so I tried my luck. One of them showed textures, the others didn't. Moreover, the aircraft selection window got messed up, the pictures displayed didn't match the aircraft.

I used FS98 and FS 2004 before, in both of them I installed addon aircraft, for FS98 I even designed some myself, so I think I'm pretty well informed about how all this works, but I heven't found a solution for the problems I described. Has anyone got an idea?

Hi Burney. If you have DirectX 10 Preview enabled try switching it off.

Hi Hagar!

That really helped - but unfortunately, the Piper Cub is now invisible (that was the reason why I switched on the preview in the first place). Do I have to keep switching on and off, depending on the plane I use?

And will that also correct the problem with imported FS 2004 planes?

Thanks

the Piper Cub is now invisible (that was the reason why I switched on the preview in the first place).

If you mean the FSX default Piper Cub I'm not sure why that would be invisible. I've never seen this reported before.

And will that also correct the problem with imported FS 2004 planes?

You will have to try it. Turning DirectX 10 Preview off should fix most texture problems with imported aircraft.

PS.
I've read that FS 2004 planes might work, so I tried my luck. One of them showed textures, the others didn't. Moreover, the aircraft selection window got messed up, the pictures displayed didn't match the aircraft.

This is caused by the Aircraft.cfg entries in the FS2004 aircraft. Compare them with the FSX defaults. The ui_xxx entries should be in quotes like this:

ui_manufacturer="Boeing"
ui_type="737-800"
ui_variation="Boeing livery"
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"
ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"

Thanks a lot, Hagar!

I dis mean the default Piper Cub. Got no idea why it's invisible. As far as I can remember, some other aircrafts panels also were invisible with the preview turned off. I'll have to see.

As for using older aircraft, I still have to try, bur I hope your hints will work out fiine.

Thanks again

I'm not the best person to give advice on these problems. I suspect your problem with the Piper Cub is caused by something other than the DX 10 Preview.

A lot will depend on your individual system. My graphics card does not support DX 10 so I have no DirectX 10 Preview option in my FSX.
