airplanes bug??

Postby rvtmendoza » Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:13 am

i have downloaded quite a lot of aircrafts here in simv, and their center of gravity is in the front of the aircraft. i am suspecting that it is due to bad config. what can i do to fix this problem?? i have also tried diff. ones but they are the same. cheers

Have you checked the payload? Sometimes playing with load/fuel helps trimming a plane...

Can you post a picture of the CG chart?

And is there a specific aircraft that this is happening on?

I had the same problem with the Concorde, kept having to pull the stick back just to maintain a pitch.
Play with the payload option. Just add a bunch of weight in one category to see how the CG moves.
After I finished the plane was a couple pounds overweight, but it still flew fine.

You're right, this is a failing of the FDE concerned. You can adjust the CofG to the right place in the aircraft.cfg (well, you can in FS9, I haven't actually tried it in FSX) by adjusting the wing_pos_apex_lon = value in the [airplane geometry] section of the aircraft.cfg; increase the positive figure to move the CofG backwards.

This is by no means an ideal fix as many here will tell you, since it affects other FD parameters. It does however get the CofG to the right place and stops the 'shuttlecocking' effect of the CofG being in the nose, without having to re-write the whole FDE. The knock on effects it has are largely unnoticeable IMHO.

I always adjust the "empty_weight_CG_position" in the aircraft cfg. I believe this has no nasty side effects other than screwing up a file that someone else has tried, incorrectly, to compensate.

I wondered if the program people use to make airfiles or configs wasn't flawed to begin with sometimes.......

The forward CoG's have always mystified me, I'm sure there is a reason, but it never made sense. Adjusting the CoG was always a priority for any MSFS aircraft that I planned on using much.

Sometimes when you put the CG right, the plane behaves oddly, like the designer of the plane has already compensated.

Anyway, the problem has been around since I can remember for several versions of MSFS and their addons.
