Repair Disk?

Postby adkleaddog » Tue Jan 12, 2010 4:31 pm

I've searched, but no apparent answer.... ::)

What exactly happens IF I were to attempt a repair, like what add-ons will be lost, cfg file overwritten etc....??

Here's my problem: I downloaded the C130J from Premier, it seemed to load ok, then when I tried to start a flight the "status bar" is gone! (percent complete)....

It happens with default aircraft as well. After the normal loading time everything appears, and flights are ok, except when I click on FSUICP4, it hangs up....

I haven't tried to delete the C130 stuff yet, I figured I'd ask the pros first!  ;)

I think it's time to upgrade my machine, I have a decent flatscreen and all, just the tower.

i would say, first start off with deleteing / uninstalling the C130.  Also, (my personal reccomendation) get and run CCleaner (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/  ~~ analize/clean the general areas, then run a REGISTRY CLEANER) you will be amazed what it will come up with that is broken/missing tags\links\entries that no longer have anything to go to that hog up system resources.

then after that, I would find your FSX.CFG usually found in C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/(user)/APPLICATION DATA/MICROSOFT/FSX  [make sure you have SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS checked so that you can get to it.] and DELETE your FSX.CFG.    RUN FSX so that it can rebuild the .cfg file.   you will, unfortunately have to rebuild all of your settings, but hopefully you will not have to dig out your disks and trudge through a "repair" or even re-install.

I've done all of Nick's "tweaks", and just checked them again just to be sure...I'll uninstall the C130, and give the rest a go!

Thanks for the reply, This is the first time I've had time in a while to sit at the computer.
