Engines will not start

Hi all,
my nephew has FSX and has enjoyed playing this for awhile now, everything working well and smoothly. As a xmas present he has got two Saitek panels, the multi panel and also the multi switch. Since putting these on the plane engines will not start, any ideas on how to correct this.
The two panels switches all seem to work except the engine start.
Any help would be appreciated

Ctrl + E always works, but for the switches, Go to settings and make sure that the buttons are all assigned to the right things. That certain switch may not be assigned to anything!
