FSX SP2 crashing all of the sudden...

Postby Mr._Ryan » Mon Dec 21, 2009 2:05 pm

The details are pretty simple: it seems over the last couple of days, when I get about an hour or so into flights, FSX suffers a "fatal error" and crashes. It has happened using more complex aircraft, but I don't think that should make a difference. It also seems to happen when I'm switching views and/or toggling to the GPS or am switching views with the ATC window open.

Computer stats:

Dell XPS 420
32-bit Vista
Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz
4 GB RAM
300 MB free disk space
Windows Experience Index is 5.9 out of 5.9

I can't really see why this should be happening. I updated my graphics card driver, I don't have any add-on scenery to speak of, and only a few (3-5) add-on aircraft.

Any thoughts as to where I should begin diagnosing this?

Thanks!

I had a similar problem, a couple years ago...

Glass panels and GPS, and Nvidia cards were the common things...

MY fix was a motherboard BIOS update..

Just throwing that out there..

I did that a few months ago when I first got the card, I'll try it again. Thanks!

Well unless I misunderstand it, the A07 is the latest bios version from Dell for my PC. I just tried deleting the fsx.cfg file and I guess I'll see if that does anything.

I'm not familiar with OEM (Dell Gateway, etc.) motherboards. Mine was an Asus..
