RE: Viewing question

Can somebody please help me? I have noticed in many of the FSX videos that people have loaded that in the VC mode they can move their viewing around very smoothly. When I use the hat on the joystick it is rather jumpy. They can zoom in and move around just like your moving your head. Another program I have an F-16 has this feature and you use the mouse. My question is is there a easy way to use the mouse to do this? in Microsoft Flt Sim is there a certain button that needs to be checked or unchecked in the Keys command area? or do you have to go in and change some config files or something rather complicated like that. Any help would be great. kinda frustrated

They use a device nammed "Track IR".
It's a little camera that analyzes the movements of your head, and reproduce them in the game.

Track IR is simply the ULTIMATE device in FS (9 or X).

Look at that:

Welcome to SimV,

You can pan/zoom with the mouse. (mouse wheel zooms)

Momentary mode-Hold down the Space bar and pan

Locked mode-Shift+O engages mouse panning-press Space to disengage.

In either case a small crosshair cursor will appear.

To look up (other) default key assignments you can either goto Settings>Controls>Buttons and Keys tab or, when flying, bring up the Kneeboard (Shift+F10) and click on 'Keys'.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

TrackIR is popular and 'FreeTrack' is a free alternative but you need to make or buy your custom headset.

The mouse can be used as well for panning, but it is not always easy to move your mouse and the joystick at the same time... Moving your head can be easier.

Having made the upgrade to FSX I cannot get TrackIR5 to work with it like I could in FS9.

I see where there is a profile for FSX.

I start TrackIR5 first then FSX.

However, nothing happens.

Is there something special I have to do for FSX to recognize I am using FSX ?

Thanks,

KC
