FSX graphics problem. HELP!!!

Postby ndoynov » Sat Nov 21, 2009 10:28 am

Hello All,
I currently installed FSX(standard) on my computer, but there is just one problem. When the gameplay starts, the graphics stutter a lot(you know what I mean). It just takes a few seconds to take me to my next view. I think it is from my graphics card, but I am not sure. I've tried everything- Changing the Frame rate, customizing the settings at all the levels, etc. and the result is the same. I went on youtube and saw that most of the people have some Nvidia graphics card. I thought that I could buy it, but whoa- It costs $500! For $500 I could buy a new computer w/ Nvidia. Here are my Specs:

Computer: 2009 Dell Inspiron 537 Desktop
Windows: Windows Vista Home Premium
Memory(RAM): 2 gb
Proccesor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) 2.19 GHz
System Type: 64-bit operating system
Disk C storage: 320gb(currently 205gb w/all the other programs including FSX)

Plzzz help people!!! I don't know what I am gonna do!!! :(

I can tell you without a doubt its your Celeron chip. It is not really powerful enough to run FSX. Also since you didn't mention a graphics card, I assume you are using the onboard which will not run FSX.
Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) ,2.70 gigahertz AMD Phenom II X6 1045T(6-core), two HD (1TB and 500GB), 8gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5570,

What kind of GPU do you have right now?

I am running a Radeon 4830 HD GPU with a AMD 7850 2.80 Ghz CPU and I run with almost fully high settings and I get not stutter.

Could you post a dxdiag or send it to me via

Your other problem besides the graphics card is going to be that processor.

Anything less than 3Ghz,(the closer you are to 4ghz and over the better it's going to be), and there is going to be a noticeable compromise in visuals/performance.

Next is going to be the Ram, you need some more. Vista alone needs that 2Gb.

If you're running on-board graphics, that will always be a problem. You really need a hardware gpu of at least 512mb preferable higher to get decent visual/performance.

I've got a 2.8ghz cpu and a 512mb gpu and 2gb ram on XPpro 32bit, and I have to keep things pretty mild in the settings, and stick with low & slow planes to keep things playable. I'm lucky if I can maintain an average of 12-15fps on a pretty much stock FSX install.  And that's after all of the tweaks here, so having the proper hardware for FSX is the key. ;)

loomex,
my graphics card is a Intel G41 Express Chipset. And also to all of you, what EXACTLY are you suggesting to do? I can't get a new computer! I just bought this one. Tell me more options, and also I am not buying another graphics card. There has to be some other type of resolution.

If you can't upgrade the hardware, and you don't want to have to settle for a poor looking/performing FSX, then I would suggest trying another sim, like FS9, or FlightGear, or even Xplane9.

Unfortunately..  that's not a gaming computer, and can't be made into one. Even FS9 will struggle on a Celeron, no matter the graphics card.

Brett,
I would have to disagree with you on the part where you say that it even FS9 wouldn't run. I had installed FS9 and ran rather smoothly. The reason I uninstalled it is because I wanted an upgrade. Also, as good as the other simulators sound, I wouldn't be able come to this forum, and I would have other limited options. Thanks for your help.

Yeah.. good forums are  big part of enjoying the community. I didn't mean to be argumentative..  it's all about what you want to do. My last FS9 computer was an overclocked AMD3700 (3.0Ghz).. and an 7800GT video card.. and with everything cranked up..there were times it struggled. Approaches into a crowded, big airport got pretty slow and jittery. My current computer (see sig), requires me to compromise key settings (like water and traffic) to run FSX.
