FSX Questions (Specifically Heli's) Thanks in advance!

New to FSX, been flying UH60L's for about 2 years. I found a decent model for the UH60 and have been messing with it a ton.

The problem I am running into is A) The torque doesn't match up what so ever and the aerodynamics do jive at all. I understand that it just isn't going to be the exact same thing, but it is so far off I think I must have some settings wrong or something!

For example, the tail rotor really works like a rudder in FSX or worse. You can fly at 150kts and twist the joy (simulating your trim in forward flight) and it will spin completely around... When really the most you could do would be kick it out of trim (i.e. turn the airconditioning on...)

B) It seems like you cant autorotate. If I am in forward flight, 1000ft and a 100kts and cut the collective (throttle) you just glide... for miles it seems. Realistically your looking at a 2500-4500 fpm rate of descent depending on your weight and DA.

I may be asking a ton but I thought it would be worth a shot to ask around. I am sure most of the folks will be fixed wing people, which is understandable. Maybe just a general this is how you change flight characteristics etc. Is it model dependent or is it a default rotorwing sript that is built in.

Is there any way to adjust things to bring it somewhat closer to the real thing?

My next question would be.. how do I go about designing my own cockpit dash... I need some marconi strips instead of these steam gauges! :)

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Hi,xdsub and welcome to Simv.

All aircraft in FS are limited in flight characteristics by the program itself. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong but as far as I know a true autorotate is not possible in FS.

There are ways to modify the aircraft performance but once again there are limits.

Some of the more skilled members will help out with more information with those questions and panel questions as well.

Cheers,
Col.

Thanks for the reply!

I hope I can find some other Helicopter pilots who have found how to make the best of it. Either way it is still a ton of fun, esspecially the instrument work for me.

I would definately be interested in re skinning the gauges, if anyone could point me in the right direction thatd be great!

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Have you tried the http://64.34.169.161/cgi-bin/ifolio/imageFolio.cgi?direct=Add-ons_-_Helicopters_-_FSX ?

If you have it set up the way they recommend, it makes for a really decent flight experience
