This is creepy.. but the Bonanza from this crash:

Was kept in the hangar, directly across from the 310. They have 6 tanks and the final story was that the "detents" were getting worn on the fuel selector.. he switched to a tank for landing, but only had the fuel left in the line available

IIRC aux tanks were available beginning with the B model.  Growing up we had a C model which had the 50 gallon mains at the wing tips and 15 gallon aux tanks in the wings.  I remember that you had to run off the mains for at least an hour before switching to the aux tanks, since the gas would flow faster than needed and they would overflow back to the mains.
I also have to say that I really enjoy flying this 310 it is very reminisant of the one we had in its flying characteristics.  :)
