The best advice I can give.. is to keep all the tasks in mind. And keep a notepad handy (so you don't keep making the same mistakes)..
Of course, all that's required, is to initialize your position (to get the heading indicator working).
The other tasks are:
Enter all the weight data..
Enter performance data (cruise altitude being most important)
Enter a destination..
Enter at least one waypoint..
Then.. the logical order takes over:
Enter takeoff data.. climb data.. cruise data, descent data, arrival data..
There are as many ways to jump around from task to task (page to page within each task), as there are people who try it. I even get lost if I'm not careful.
