Within My FSX Directory, in my scenary/global/texture folder; I have changed all the dds. texture files from the default DXT5 to DXT3 to give me better performance, If I install this update... will I have to do all of this again or will it not alter these files?

Thanks

The textures being replaced are in the main FSX texture folder and have nothing to do with scenery folders

Just an FYI.. converting DXT5 to DXT3 may have destroyed any alpha layer the texutre had, damaged bump maps and on top of that DDS flips textures upside down so if the conversion did not account for the flip there are a lot of incorrect textures in that folder now. A very large portion of the textures are DXT1 so if the conversion changed those to DXT3 then the user has increased their file size to the system instead of reduced it.

Those texture hacks do more damage than they are worth and I wish the links to the 'how to's" in using them were removed.

I tested them all when FSX was first released and found them all to be quite damaging to the title and worthless

Unless you are on hardware even FS9 would have a hard time rendering, as Phil Taylor has said, those tweaks are not doing what people think they do.

Most of the textures in that folder are DXT1 and posed no perf hit at all.. as a matter of fact, in DDS format even DX5 really does not.

I dont want to make this sound conveniant or anything but Iv just remembered that I stuffed the DXT3 setting and went straight to the DXT1a setting; also leaving out a few of the gate textures so the baggage carts and other airport vehicles dont look crappy. But you are saying that this addon shouldnt affect all my conversions I did, but if they do affect it then it would be only the bump mappings at the most... is that what you mean?
