2D Main Panals Missing From All Of My Aircraft

Postby westside » Sat Jan 03, 2009 11:32 am

I have recently been adding some of the great add on freeware from this site and things have been working out great. With out warning all off my 2D main panels went missing and FSX seems to be stuck looking for them (the hourglass symbol appears and is a shaky shadow behind the arrow). I have removed everything installed after the problem appeared but no luck. Everything else works but the frame rate has seemed to fall due to the computer trying to look for something. I suspect I have destroyed some kind of configuration link for the 2D panel. I have checked it with default and add on aircraft including some of my payware planes and the same thing happens. It works fine if I can get to and aircraft without the 2D panel up and as long as I don't call it up it is fine, Once it is call upon it won't let go of it. It happened briefly a few days ago but disappeared.

I think the first thing I'd do is delete the FSX.cfg, then reload the game and let it rebuild.

Thanks Guys, I have indeed repaired the the program with the disks and it was not the problem. I removed the all freeware add-ons that I recently installed and the problem went away. I am disappointed and confused that one aircraft file could affect the other aircraft files. I also liked flying the Dash-8 It was a fun little commuter

Glad you got it sorted out. Try re-installing your add ons, one at a time, and maybe that way you will find out which one was screwing you up.  And yeah, aint CYVR a bugger?    ;D

It was a piece of freeware that was the culprit. It was a set of 4 Air Canada Jazz Dash-8's. I guess I could redownload it and try again. I was having fun flying short hops around BC. ............Thanks Rick and CYVR
is a crowded place, but fun.

I would like to check this out. Have you got a link? Not sure I understand how installing addon aircraft could affect all your 2D panels.

I am not sure how this happened either. You will find the download under FSX Props. It could be the way the file was unzipped as well. I am going to put the files back in the Sim Objects files and see if it is still acting funny.

Think I found the file on this page. http://www.simviation.com/simviation/index.php?type=item&ID=61&page=4

The Dash-8 has its own panel & sound files & should be no problem to install. Even if you follow the misguided* instructions to extract the files direct to FSX I can't see how it can possibly conflict with any other aircraft.

*In my opinion.

I dl'd and installed the files, and all is fine here, and checked out about 8 of the other planes, and 2D and 3D panels were all fine. Mighta been the way you installed. As Hagar says, it is kind of a 'unusual'  install procedure.

I moved the files out of FSX into another place on the computer and the problem went away Last night I moved them back in along with another set I downloaded and the problem did not reappear. I didn't try to fly the problem aircraft but they did reappear in the hanger when I moved the files. I didn't follow the screwy instructions for installing these aircraft. My system unzipped the files and I was able to to move them to the appropriate file in FSX. I will try again tonight to fly the trouble maker aircraft and see what happens. The problem makes no sense to me either but it has a solution that has not cause me permanent damage.
