I'm finally installing the package, after having been ill for the past few days.
Can't wait to test it!
Though I'm a bit nervous, you say there's no performance loss or gain with these textures, but is this compared to default autogen? I'm using reduced textures...
Then you must have an extremely slow system becasue any fairly modern CPU/VC/MEM will run FSX without texture reductions
At the same time the textures in FSX can be damaged by the conversion/reduction process too because some may be in DXT1 format and others DXT5 with alpha chanels and then converted to DDS which 'flips the texture 180 degrees which means the 'conversion tool' must automatically sort the different formats to ensure they are correctly handled, reduced, coverted and then returned to their correct compressed state.
and, if you installed SP2 or Acceleration after such a change some of what you did was reversed.
I even ran it on a AMD x2 4800+ and a 7900GTX for a few months some years back and that texture reduction trick served no purpose ... it actually made the sim look and run worse.
