Multiplayer and ATC

My son and I were using the LAN and flying the same aircraft.  We had hoped to allow ATC to lead us thru the chosen flight plan, but is seems we cold not get the ATC menu (`~) to come up.  Is this correct?  We don't have anyone that will "play" ATC, so is there some way we did not find to allow the game ATC to guide us thru the flight plan?  Or, if there some addon that would give us missions with ATC, or what's the deal?

ATC's will only be present in multiplayer, if someone reprises the role.

And unfortunately, there are very few that will...

You'll have bigger chances flying on the internet, than on LAN though.

So are there any programs that can be used with multiplayer that can give ATC instructions to a predetermined plan?  

And, can you expand on "flying onthe internet"? I'm not ready to do that I don't think if it's what I think you mean, but my son and I have just started tyring this in the same cockpit thing, and it's not as much fun or challenging without ATC.

I have been wanting to experiment with online multiplayer, but it looks pretty complicated.  I wouldn't mind being ATC, that sounds fun, except I don't have a mic and headset.

Then I suppose you can't be ATC without those??  Plus, I suspect you gotta know what to say and do.......which sounds harder than flying and doing what they say to do!  I think I'll shop around for an online session I/we can get into.  I have not done that yet......but I did just get a mic today......plus I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night!!
