I recently decided to take the Baron 58 out for a spin. I tookoff form Monterrey, Mexico and took a direction toward Cancun. But for some reason the best speed I cound avarage was 140 kts; and this was with full throttle. I read the Baron

Just kidding I think you simply need to find an appropriate mixture setting.

Is the 140 knots Indicated Airspeed or Groundspeed.  At altitude, the Baron may indicate 140 but it may actually be traveling much faster.

I use auto mixture and that solves the problem but it does take away some realism . 8-)

Sorry to go for the obvious, but did you have the gear up and flaps retracted?  Open cowl flaps might trim off a few knots, but you should still be able to go faster than 140.  Other things that could slow you down are slipping/skidding or one engine (or both) partially feathered.

I have found that most normally aspirated engines in FSX require the mixture to be set at about half once you get to around 7000 or 8000 feet.  You don't need to change it if you go higher.

...correctly Trimmed, I can squeese 220 knots out of my FS 2004 Default Beech Baron 58 Twin in level flight...(and keeping a wary eye on all the Gauges at the same time!......!

Which is why I always use her for my long-distance, piston-prop flights across country... ..!

My favourite cross-country Tourer.

She is as fast, or faster, and nippier, than my Default Beech King Air Turbo Prop Twin... ... ...!!

P.S....always make sure if you have been running on Auto-Pilot, that you RE-TRIM the Aircraft after you have switched the Auto-Pilot off, and every time BEFORE take-off!

You need to thin out the fuel mixture (improve range and performance) and then make the props coarse pitch and you should zoom along

A good move up to a "Complex Aircraft" after the Cessna 152 Trainer...!

Try a Single Prop Cessna 182SP, or the Cessna 182RG....(Retractable Gear) in the meantime... ..!!

Step-by-step..is always a good thing......!

Always study the Aircraft Owners Handbook carefully, and store it in your brain, before attempting to board and fly any Aircraft, and make a mental note of all the required instructions for that particular Aircraft......!
